I have a 5.1 sound system. There are moments when I need to use my headsets with microphone incorporated for gaming and recording purposes.
I need to take out the front speaker cable jack from the computers sound card and insert my headsets.
With this I can have both speakers and headset connected at all time. The idea would be not to damage the sound card from all the switching between the cables. Inside it has 2 metal clamps that contact with the jack. Those clamps (as I call them) in time will be more lose and won't provide contact. I had it happen to other devices many times. Would it happen in 2 years or 3 or 6 months no one knows.

My question is , how safe is this method ? Considering I am adding electric current impedance on the same line. At the end inside the sound card there is a resistance. That resistance can fail, as it has done so before on my old boom-box when I added two strong speakers on the same line.

P.S. : I know i did it before and it failed, however this time maybe the headsets are not as strong as the speakers I used in the past ? I don't know.... What are you thoughts on this what are your thoughts on this
I could use better cables too like this (in case cable quality was a problem) : https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Ugr...f0a1-423d-bc0d-3b99512964c0&priceBeautifyAB=0

Can you use onboard sound for one output and soundcard for the other?

Im sure ive done that before.

Why not plug headphones into the front panel headphone jack? If you want both connected all the time, get a USB DAC for the headphones and switch default playback device in Sound Properties depending on which you want to use.

Assuming your 5.1 speakers are analog (uses three 3.5mm jacks), using a splitter like that would effectively halve the volume to both front speakers and your headphones. It'll make both sound weak especially when the speakers are driving the center/rear/sub at full power. It wouldn't damage anything (assuming analog) but I would strongly not recommend it.

I just plug my speakers into the front 3.5 jack when I want them and unplug when not. I wouldn't have both on the same output.

these splitters easily break in my experience, plus they introduce more impedance, which in turn reduces the sound output.
Luckily for me I have a wireless USB headset that is listening to the speaker output of my sound card, there's a very slight delay in sound, but at least it works and there is no buzzing.
