Hello ,

I just recently accidentally spilled orange juice on my keyboard around the directional arrow keys and I immediately unplugged the keyboard and let it dry .

After 24 hours I plugged my keyboard back in , and since it was fully dry I decided to test it.

After turning on my PC I started to see some random thing s appear :

First the KB has it's FN button lid up and whenever I press any of the Function buttons they all act like I am holding the FN button.

Other buttons won't respond or I cant test them because
somehow whenever I click somewhere folder , file etc... I get around 15 popup boxes saying are you sure you want to delete this file/folder, so i t seems like something happened to my delete button even though I am not holding it.

So I wanted to ask if anyone here knows how to help me fix my problem and hopefully it is not broken.

My KB is:
CM Quickfire Ultimate

Thanks.

Contact your retailer. Contact coolermaster and be honest about what happened and ask if they would be willing to RMA

Okay so after 24 hours its not fully dry.

First you need to clean it. You can take the keys off after taking a picture of them. Use warm water with mild soap or an electronics cleaner in a spray bottle. Wash it good getting all the juice out.

Then allow to dry for at least a week after blowing it off with air. If its under warrenty dont take it apart. But if not take it apart and inspect it.

imo that works only if the device/unit hasnt been powered on yet. Its been powered on so its safe to assume that part of it is fried.

Be glad it wasn't a laptop

Since the juice got into the switches they are now junk.

Some of that juice must be messing up with the key contacts same happened to my keyboard and after some cleaning it works. I had a Logitech g710+ spilled with beer :toast: and it still works after some good cleaning and drying. If RMA is not an option you could still take it apart if you have the tools.

Perhaps a strange idea, but try to surround the keyboard with rice in a box around it, maybe it helps - it absorbs the humidity.

Yeah its worth trying to clean at least, I still have an old Saitek keyboard that works well. It was dying on me and the keys were not working right. I took the entire thing apart and cleaned it really well and it works perfectly again, is still actually working to this day.

Thanks for the answer guys, although I only have a 90% alcohol (not Isopropyl one) which has 10% Distilled Water, so can that work ?

Nevermind, I just tested it again and EVERYTHING works, thanks for the help everyone + rep for everyone.

Drying orange juice is not good enough. OJ is full of sugar and other stuff - maybe even pulp. It needs to be thoroughly cleaned. Drying without cleaning will make it harder to clean later once all sorts of dust, cookie and potato chip crumbs stick to the sticky goo.

Even if it is working fine now, if there is still OJ under the keys, dust and other debris will soon build up and create more problems.

(edit comment: changed cooking to cookie)

Agreed, I would take it apart carefully, taking a picture before as Jester mentioned if that is necessary and clean it out by wiping it down carefully.
