Hey I've been lookin' into SSDs. Would you guys recommend them?
I thought about getting this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0031X8HG2/?tag=tec06d-20

Or do you think it would just be a money wasted toy? I mean... for that price I could get a 2TB hard drive... lol.

Yes, no... I don't know, could you repeat the question?

As Windows disk, sure they're nice. If you want that 2TB storage, go for that.

Let's turn your question around.

I thought about getting this: *some link to a 2TB disk*

Or do you think it would just be a money wasted toy? I mean... for that price I could get a SSD that's 2-3 times as fast and has roughly a single percent of the access time... lol.

What Dan is trying to say is that it depends on what you need. If you download large files all the time then go for the 2TB drive, because honestly who needs 0.01ms access time for porn? The SSD is mainly for the OS and applications, you'd be an idiot to store porn on the SSD. What a waste of space!

It would be to boot Windows 7 fast ... I'm just blown away at how fast they are but I am wondering if you guys think the performance increase is worth the money$$$.
Oh and Kantastic XD I laughed at your reply! ahahahhaa. but.. the pr0n loads so much faster :(

I think they're worth it only if you get enough space for all your apps. I personally don't see the need to just put Windows on an SSD and leaving everything else for a regular hard drive. But if saving 10 seconds of boot time is that important then go for it.

Most WD SSD reviews I've seen have it being somewhat underwhelming for the price.
Legit Bottom Line: The WD SiliconEdge Blue has solid sequential performance, but the overall performance of the drive and price leaves us wanting more bang for the buck.

For Western Digital's first crack at SSD, this new drive performed well. Sequential transfer rates are competitive with most modern units and can best Intel in write speeds. That said, this new offering leaves something to be desired when it comes to random access performance. While the drive is true to its rated 5,000 IOPS, that figure is just not high enough to truly compete with the competition offering as high as 35,000 IOPS in the same form factor. Fortunately for us, if the 'Blue' label is anything like their HDD line, we may see a 'Black' model at some point down the road.

Sorry for the misunderstanding. I wasn't recommending it. I picked that one because it was the cheapest, had a good rating and was the same price as the one in his link on Amazon.
