Starcraft 2 Beta

I logged on and was able to get to where I could click play. No time to play a match so didn't actually load in, sorry.

North america isnt much better. i can get in, clicked skip practice league. but the quick match thing seems to be loading endlessly. says 836,000 people on bnet, 0 sc2 games in my region. i wonder if that includes wow players or not. or if its just off

Check the forums. If it's not working, you'll definitely see people voicing their frustrations there.

Can any one an early preliminary review on this?

i can do that.

Now the only RTS that i have ever liked is starcraft. Age of empires, empire earth, and the command and conquer series are decent games. Battle for middle earth and supreme commander i didnt much care for. Starcraft required more skill in my opinion. There was lots of micro management of your armies, and macro of your base/economy.

This has been brought forward to starcraft 2. although some units were removed, some nice ones were added. About every unit has at least one ability that makes them unique. So far the game seems very balanced. It allows you to do 5 preliminary matches to have a rough idea of what league to place you. Diamond is for the elite, and bronze for the new players. There are also silver, gold and platinum leagues.

In terms of online play, its quite smooth and quick. There was very little lag in phase1 and the quick match setup took no more than a minute or so to get in a game. The friend system is well thought out, its easy to message your friends in game, and out of game. You can create party chats and partys to play games together.

The game looks phenominal, and can still run on hardware several years old.

Any other questions, feel free to ask

sounds sweet i have never played starcraft but have always loved rts games, if i pre order it from bestbuy does it come with beta key or just gamestop?

was gamestop that did that, but i dont think they have them anymore

I just played a practice match, and naturally, got my ass kicked. I'm just no good at RTS games

at least you can play it :(

IMO it's not that great... It's just Starcraft revamped... nothing really ground breaking or new to the RTS

I'm probably one of the very few people who don't care about the Starcraft series at all.

But who knows, maybe this one will get me interested.

I played the beta and hated it..

Everything seemed too damned slow, from unit building to research. Took me 45 min. to develop the whole tech tree and make one unit of each available.. which is kind of ridiculous for someone who's coming from C&C 3 and Supreme Commander 2.

Totten if you play on normal its an alright speed. if you play on faster its quick. the practice matches are done in normal, then after that its all faster.

@gilletter thats all starcraft 2 should be. If they changed it too much it wouldnt be starcraft anymore. They added numerous new mechanics such as ground units traverssing cliffs. what takes a lot of time is balancing of the races.

My ign is: Meta
(I play alot of 'toss...)
See you online!

Perhaps you were playing on the practice league? Because things there are at a slower speed... I've never had a game go past 30 mins, and that was a 4 player game where we had to choke out the enemy by waiting for them to run out of minerals!

Also, I play alot of C&C, but SC2 is actually faster, IMO.

any1 try the new AI yet? me and my bro did a 2v2 of hard computers, they put up a good fight. i wanna try the insane level haha

Don't bother, the Insane AI is basically the Hard AI with extra money, speed, and maphack...

Btw, I got platnium league yesterday! Woo, go me!:D

All the Koreans finally got a chance to upgrade their PCs since BattleNet was down so they now get over 10FPS, and are currently unstoppable.
