So.. I have a contact frame ready to go, I needed the TIM before I sacked up and bought a 40g tube..

I was thinking about getting this board:

Does what I need I think

CPU will be a 9800X3D.. so not a hard load to drive, even with PBO +200 I would think.

Memory will probably be Royals.. not sure yet.. have to piece this together over a couple of months like I did with AM4.

This board will get handed down as I phase out AM4 here at home.

I have case, PSU, a few NVME, GPU.. everything really. Just doing a platform swapperoo.

As with AM4, I have not looked into AM5 at all because I want to keep it a surprise lol..

But I just have a keyboard, mouse, and a usb stick that I use to install windows.. my needs are pretty basic I think..

After I get the new system installed, new GPU's should be available :D

Have you looked at the Steel Legend line by AsRock?

If you are gonna do what you usually do with memory, no way jose. Absolutely not G.skill. Get literally anything with decent heatspreaders.

Definitely shop around for the board. Asus is really milking it these days. Not the C8 days anymore

Negative, but I can have a looksy
Id say they are like the ASUT TUF of yester years( My board was excellent) the b550 SL has been flawless for 3 years now.

Right?

My Strix B550 -F was a pretty stripped down board, but I was ok with it, and it was a hella good clocker. I think I might get this one.

Edit:

Just saw your post bro.. I will check out MSI.. and AsRock too I guess..

Dam u Asus.

Are you going to tweak the memory settings at all or just leave it?

The best memory is DDR5 6000 CL30. I am deliberately not publishing the name of a specific manufacturer brand because I have not explored the limits that can be achieved with individual kits. One might think that even lower latency is better, and that may be true if you only play synthetic benchmarks.
Ps. This advice is only temporary. If you plan to upgrade to ZEN 6, your current RAM choice will probably not be the best option for performance after such an upgrade.

6000 CL26 and 6400 CL28 is out now. Besides KLEVV FIT V (it's dual-rank 16GB DIMMs), those other two are going to be the best performance for AMD.

Unless you manually tweak one, which will beat XMP/EXPO any day of the week.

I cant do the Dell, I have to play bro :)

Or you could always strip them nekkid and do custom heatspreaders to compensate for their lack of PMIC pad. But that seems counterproductive to choosing something as expensive as Royals. Anyways, pick some decent sticks.

40g tube.
 I hope you meant 4g. While TIM, once properly applied will easily last 5, 10, 15 years or longer AS LONG AS the cured bond between the CPU and heatsink is not broken, what's left in a tube that's been opened will not.

my needs are pretty basic I think..
Umm, I don't see where you stated your needs - or purpose - for this machine. But if willing to spend $330 on a motherboard, your needs don't sound "pretty basic" to me. Nevertheless, I suspect that board will do everything you need, but wash the dishes.

I swap coolers, CPUs, boards all the time.. my hobby lol.. gotta keep my hands busy I guess.. plus I do like to tinker.

I need it to be fast, reliable, overclock friendly, have room for a few M.2, and do well in real life and in benchmarks :D

Like how my AM4 rig used to be 5 years ago

I don't need many USB ports, and they don't have to be fast.
But if willing to spend $330 on a motherboard,
Keep in mind that those are polar pesos.

There are a couple of other things, but luckily I am married :toast:

I'm using the same board - it's superb, and includes everything i need from a board.

Funny, that precise board + gskill memory is working great for me...

damn. wish I could.....

Think you need to go back and re-read what you quoted to see what I was really getting at

Keep in mind that those are polar pesos.

Beautiful  just in time to see tariffs turn polar pesos into reality

Damn man, where'd you find a 9800x3d?

It's always a matter of price and patience
I mean I've been offering my 9950x in trade. Guess I don't have the patience lol.

All I have right now is a contact frame that I bought a few months ago lol..

It was cheaper than just the TIM at the time

But this thing is 5 years old now.. she did me proud. My youngest cant have it :)

Did you buy it before or after TR changed the font?
