If I were you, I'd cut and paste steamapps out of the Steam directory, uninstall Steam, install Steam, then cut and paste steamapps back.

If that doesn't work, one of the gcf, ncf, or acf files in the steamapps directory is corrupt. Which one is anyone's guess. Steam has terrible automated troubleshooting support.

That worked thanks. Problems like that always distract me from what i SHOULD be doing :laugh:
