A new survey by Net Applications shows a steady increase in the market share (not to be confused with browser usage) of Mozilla Firefox and more importantly, a surge in the usage of the Apple Safari web browser. The two web browser software have been chipping away share from Microsoft's Internet Explorer (MSIE) and it appears that Microsoft could use a convincing new browser rather sooner than later.

According to the survey, Internet Explorer (all versions together) still holds a 73.01 per cent market share, which is down by 1 per cent from 73.75 per cent in May and 74.83 per cent in April. While this growth of web-browser software against MSIE cannot be regarded as an upsurge just as yet, the growth of Apple Safari against other MSIE-alternatives is close to being called so. The Apple browser with a current share of 6.31%, up from 5.81% in April, has long overtaken Opera which was once considered the best alternative to MSIE and since early days believed in platform-diversity to gain market share.

probly alot of use of Safari from the iPhone.

I personally use only FF and Safari, unless I'm dealing with finances I use IE7 since Windows has plenty of security issues.

i wonder how they get these statistics

^^ LOL... from the dial-home spyware in FF of course!

IE6 is still winner in my books.

Meh im happy enough with IE7 havnt seen a compelling enough reason to change.

Yea, I hate when I have to fire up IE just because some site requires it...

i use FF3, theres maybe two sites i've been to (asus cough) that wont work properly in FF.

i bet the iphone accounts for a nice percentage.. but then again, os x is becoming very popular.

Not only that; Safari is available for Windows as well.
I tried it on my laptop, and it loaded web pages faster than anything else (and I've tried FF3 and Opera 9.5), except it wasn't too nice on my resources... so I'm using Opera 9.5, because it still loads faster than FF and IE, and uses less resources.;)
Safari is awesome.:)
