So i always have had this problem with my new rig ever since i built it a few months ago, but i neglected it cause i really didn't needed to switch to high performance mode as i was satisfied by my systems performance, but it always bugged me and today finally I've decided to seek out some help. The thing is my system just refuses to switch to High performance mode and auto switches back to balanced mode as soon as i try to set it to High performance mode. Its creepy that it does it on its own like as soon as i switch to high performance mode just switches back to balanced mode. Here look how it's refusing to go to high performance mode ... Sorry for the vid quality Imgur messes up with the compression.

My system specs -
  • i7 8700
  • GTX 1080 Ti
  • 2x16 GB (32 GB) Crucial Ballistix 3200 Mhz cas 15 Ram
  • Samsung 960 Pro 512 GB NVMe Boot drive
  • Samsung 860 Pro 1 TB Game drive
  • Toshiba 3 TB 7200 RPM 128 MB catch storage drive
  • Corsari RMX 750w PSU
  • MSI z370 Krait gaming Motherboard.
  • Windows 10 x64 Latest build.

I've had similar issues like this in the past, in those cases uninstalling any software that came with the motherboard fixed it for me.

Solved it. it was windows fast boot preventing that. Weird but after turning off fast boot i can now switch between modes and set them as i like. The only apps i have installed that belong to my Mobo manufacturer are MSI Afterburner for In game overlay and MSI gaming app for controlling the LED's.

I dont think MS thorouhly tested certain functions. I'd report your findings to Microsoft, Intel and the Motherboard maker
