Patch 4.01 for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is being rolled out on PC, PlayStation and Xbox. It improves the overall stability and performance of the game on next-gen consoles and PC, and brings various fixes to all platforms.

Here's the list of changes for this update:

PC-SPECIFIC

  • Fixed an issue where the Screen Space Reflections setting wasn't working on PC despite being turned on. Players who had previously set their SSR setting to high may notice a performance impact.
  • Added a new performance mode for ray-traced global illumination, which can be toggled by players with compatible hardware. It improves frame rate by prioritizing performance over range and precision.
CONSOLE-SPECIFIC

  • Fixed an issue where consoles could create a higher amount of saves than their set limit, resulting in various issues with saving the game or user settings being reset.
  • Improved Screen Space Reflections quality on next-gen consoles.
  • Optimized ray-traced global illumination on next-gen consoles to improve the performance of Ray Tracing Mode.
QUESTS & GAMEPLAY - Available on all platforms

  • Battle Preparations - Fixed an issue where it could be impossible to interact with Avallac'h during the objective "Let Avallac'h know everything's ready."
  • Family Matters - Fixed an issue that could cause the game to crash during the transition to Ciri's Story: Out of the Shadows when speaking to the Bloody Baron.
  • King's Gambit - Fixed an issue where it could be impossible to participate in the fistfight with the second Vildkaarl due to an invisible obstacle.
  • Wine Wars: Belgaard - Added a retrofix for the issue we fixed in 4.00, where the quest couldn't be completed if the player destroyed one of the required monster nests during exploration.
  • A Dangerous Game - The armor in Caesar's room should now change its appearance when the Alternate Nilfgaardian Armor is turned on.
  • Axii Puppet - Increased the health and damage dealt by the puppet.
  • Adrenaline Rush mutation should now work according to its description.
  • Various small fixes to quests and cutscenes.
LOCALIZATION - Available on all platforms

  • Fixed various issues with Arabic localization.
  • Added the localized versions of Orianna's song "Lullaby of Woe" in Korean and Simplified Chinese.
  • Adjusted Priscilla's lip-sync animation to match her voice-over in Simplified Chinese during the song "The Wolven Storm".
Please note: these are only the most notable changes. The patch contains other minor fixes that didn't make it into this list.

I bought this game a few months before I bought Elden Ring. I finished Elden Ring thrice already, haven't even finished TW3's base game main quest.

I bought this game a few months before I bought Elden Ring. I finished Elden Ring thrice already, haven't even finished TW3's base game main quest.
Elden Ring was amazing, but I think TW3 will stand the test of time much better. They're very different games - the open world moniker and the medieval fantasy setting are the only things they got in common - but once you adjust to the TW3's slower pace, it will find a special place in your gaming heart and stay there forever.
On the other hand, the lion's share of ER's allure lies in its combat system, but the dull areas (especially in the late game - Stormveil Castle is the game's best dungeon by a landslide) and the repeated bosses did get to me after a while. Plus, the unbalanced, spasm-inducing pace of the final bosses seems off (even if we don't count Malenia), practically forcing the player to use spirit summons - but then it's way too easy...

All this coming from a guy who thinks Dark Souls 1 is the best game of all time, with Bloodborne being a close second (New Vegas, Snake Eater, Shadow of the Colossus, Silent Hill 2, The Witness, and RE4 are the other titles I hold in the highest esteem.)

Hope it doesnt end up perpetual updates like many modern games, as risks breaking cheat engine, mods etc.

you can always roll back to the last version before the big 4.00 update, steam and gog both offer this option.

it's what I will be doing, as I don't like the new version. changes too many things imo and for the worse.

I have activated the legacy version on steam already to avoid all the fluff that slows the game down, so hopefully that version doesnt get all the patches anyway. :)

I don't blame you... On my 3080ti I had to run it at 1440p with DLSS balanced to get a decent framerate with everything maxed RT shadows off.... Now with my 4090 4k is as smooth as butter though. Not sure if the RT is just that heavy or if the game needs more optimization I am still cpu limited in some spots even after the most recent updates. Frame generations is also way more impressive than I was expecting on a 65 inch LG G2.

Probably best not to play it now. Ever since the recent patch last month removed detailed nudity The Witcher 3 Update Is Removing All "Unintended" Private Parts. Example is where The three Crones 'Ladies of the Woods' no longer look like this, in there finer form. Instead are like barbie dolls. Completely ruines the immersion and some would say, makes the game a 9.5/10 to a max of a 3. -> obvious sarcasm here. However, with violence, gore in all sorts of degrees of realism I do think a bit of nudity isn't to be shamed upon. Heck, maybe upon verification the game can unlock higher degrees of both gore and nudity. Say, under 13 you get puffs of red for blood. 13-16+ boobies with nipples. R18+ option for complete realistic nudity and gore with the ability to adjust to your hearts content.

It's my wife's favorite game of all time to the point it prompted her to read all the books. It's probably in my top 10.

Yeah it's seems to be a thing with them, i remember back with the Witcher 1 and removed blood splatter, how ever you could change it back :):). Hopefully you can with these newer updates too.

Fuuny though All "Unintended" Private Parts, they accidentally added them ? Da Fck.

What it is, is bollocks. Back paddling crap and i hate it more than the BS over Cyberpunk.
