Hi all

took out my cpu today to replace with my opteron 165 (which i might say is running beautifully at 2.7) and the thermal grease that came pre aplied to my arctic 64 freezer was down the side of my processer so when i was cleaning it a bit of my fingers which were covered in it caught a few of the edge pins, i manaaged to get most of it out, but what is left will it cause any problems if i use that processor again

You really need to get it out. If they used ceramic it's ok but if it's conductive like as5 then it could cause a short. Just use some alcohol and maybe a soft brush or something then blow it out with some dust off.

An old soft toothbrush works good. If it doesn't want to come out try to soak it up with baby powder pushing it in with the brush and blowing it out w/canned air.

The toothbrush idea might work, but I would suggest Arctic Silver Cleaner if you have it. Bottle #1 will dissolve any paste on there. Then #2 will remove any residue. If you don't have any, maybe a mild solution of dish soap on the toothbrush, then make sure to follow up with alcohol to remove all the soap. And of course, no matter what you clean it with, make sure all the cleaner is gone before inserting the chip back in, and make sure it is completely dry.

Brake cleaner! :) lol I've used it on my cpu. CRC electronics parts cleaner is also great at disolving thermal compound. Hardware stores should have it.

what ever you end up using be very freakin careful not to break off one of those pins

tooth brush and it went straight away.

used arcti clean (very good kit)

can i still use the tooth brush :D

lol Actually, I think you can. I know bottle #1 is supposed to be non-toxic...
