Toshiba Satellite P875 upgrade question

I have a friend who has one of these, and I've hit a brick wall trying to figure out if it can be upgraded video wise. It's an i7 powered laptop, I would figure you could add a video card to it, but some models of it already have an nvidia card installed, and some use the onboard HD4000 graphics. It's a Satellite p875, and sub-model S7102. I simply can't find any info, or am not looking in the right place.... help?

not really possible, but if you manage to scavenge a card from a same model, might be worthwhile to open it up and see.

It doesn't have a card, but some sub models of it do. I am going to have to ask him why he blew his money on this turkey.....

Usually with Toshiba, they use a proprietary video card. They do not use a typical MXM module that would see in the Alienwares, Sager, Eurocom, or other Clevo based units. Toshiba generally does not allow their units to be upgraded. A Qosmio might be the except but with them, I find it is better to just buy the better video up front. Upgrading is alot more expensive later.

Give me the S/N and I will look into for ya if you want. I am a Toshiba ASP and can access their service manuals and parts.

I'll ask the sn from him tomorrow when I see him. Didn't realize this would be such an issue... oh well, if I can learn how to repair, and then install, and then update osx 10.85 on a macbook pro, I can do this.....?

I agree, but if this thing can be loaded with 24gbs of ram, which he has done, then it should take a video module rather than intel hd graphics.... you would think?

no it wont. ram change a kid can do. since the slots are already there.

you cant add a gpu because they might have omitted the pcie slot since its not needed.

also more than often these days, the gpu is itself integrated onto the motherboard. so no different parts.

it seems likely that you're on a fools errand.

yeah, its an i7 powered machine, it uses the hd4000 on the cpu. I can't believe they would make a laptop like this that can't be upgraded. booooooo!
