TPU's Discord Server!

voice activated is for mouth breathers and console plebs.

Glorious PC master race has sufficient mouse buttons!

The glorious PC master race knows how to adjust its sensitivity so it only catches what is meant to be caught.

With as few users active in voice channels as there is now, there's no point in mandating push-to-talk.

agreed im all for voice activation. all about that proper calibration.

In my experience, almost no one calibrates their shit right. Always feedback of some kind.

Just joined in :) Thanks for setting a server up y'all! I'm EGGMAN on discord but have added a note on my profile as THE_EGG - TPU.

I joined in. I hover discord on quite a few servers most of the time I'm awake so I'll be around lol

I...don't...Reddit...so I don't know WTF I'm looking at.

its a reddit forum for PC master race. confusing because clicking titles can sometimes take you to the thread, sometimes to a linked image etc.

redditors believe its perfect, so by questioning it i shall now be attacked by hordes of OCD ADHD rich white kids.

Let us know how that goes.

First my home Teamspeak, and now TPU Discord?
Ever since I began playing ARMA 3, I stopped using PTT as the default keybind is CAPS LOCK, which I've been using in Teamspeak for years causing a double broadcast which sounds awful.
Just about every key is used as a control for ARMA, so I choosing another PTT button is difficult.
Just yesterday my TS3 server has also forced PTT, and so now I'm having a tough time adjusting since I still cannot use CAPS LOCK while playing.

i bind scroll lock to a mouse button and use that.

Teamspeak also has a hidden away option that prevents the keypress beign recognised in other programs - so whatever button you assign will not be recognised in any other program while TS is running.

I'm trying to move away from TS3 entirely. TeamSpeak hasn't updated their client in months where Discord gets updates almost daily. Discord also keeps it simple where TeamSpeak gets quite technical/confusing, especially in settings.

Caps lock = shouting in text channels
Scroll lock = KVM switch key (might hear the KVM beep every time I push it twice by accident).

Add more keys to your keyboard!

Most chat software allow you to assign any key combination and even mouse buttons for PTT. If you are lucky enough to have macro keys like Logitch G-keys you can assign even something like Ctrl+alt+leftshift+tab+Num0 as your PTT key. I have actually done this before in Mumble

Ok, I'm going to show my ancientness....wtf is a Discord Server? Yeah, I've done the googlebing thing, and I'm not any more enlightened than I was. It appears to be something I have no use for, because I haven't needed it yet.

 I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who has said "wtf is that?"

Why do I wanna do that? I don't generally like people. :p Even RL friends know me as the guy who says what he needs/wants to say, and then do a lot of listening. I'm not known for being chatty, or talking just to talk.

Ok, not for me then.

I do love all of you tho!

Its a lot easier and efficient than TPU PM if you are having a conversation.

how do people calibrate voice on activation when they have clicky clack keys that can be heard across the house?

Just like me, I threw my cell phone in the Connecticut River in 2001 never bought myself another one since :)

clack clack, sniffling, coughing, squeaky chairs.

Because keyboard is 1.5-2 feet away, mic is inches. Even if I use my Snowball, which is about the same distance from me as the keyboard, it is omni-direction so I literally have to pound on my keyboard for it to pick it up.

It sleeps with the fishes. :|

not everyone can afford fancy mics :(

due to desk layout, my mic is fairly close to one of my speakers - and its just this shitty thing
