will this work the benchies show a 15 to 18 percent increase and since i got it on ebay for 118 the 4890 i figure why not, i have heard tri fire scales better than quad and since cat 8.1 the CCC will allow the full clock speed my question is will it use all 3gb of memory on both cards or will it downgrade to 1gb of ddr5 on the 4890

If you have the 2GB 4850x2 then it will use 1GB but if you have the 1Gb 4850 X2 then it will will use 512Mb.

for tri fire users answer from ati tech support

The video memory will ALL be used if you have 2x4850 (IE X2) 2gb and one 4870 1gb then quoting from support ati 3gb will be used 1gb from 4850 1gb from4850 and 1gb from 4870 this should kill the rumors that you will only get one gb of memory if u add a 1nd card with one 1gb of mem.
