So I have an old HP Pavilion laptop which sustained quite a bit of damage to the chassis. Fortunately the components inside still work fine and I was able to get it up and running.

As I have ditched the case, I plan to turn it into a slim desktop computer and make a new case for it out of wood. However there is a rather large issue that I need to resolved first.

The spoilers are kind of image heavy

The laptop motherboard seems to have some sort of 40-pin connector for the screen and an HDMI for an external monitor. However the system will not boot unless a screen is hooked up to the 40 pin connector. Trying to boot with the old laptop screen detached and the HDMI cable plugged into the TV does not work. Also there is no option in the BIOS to boot using the HDMI port as the primary screen

I know that there are some adapters like this one. I an just wondering if it would be suitable to take the laptops output and push it to a screen or if there are any other methods that I could try.

Thanks for reading!

I'm sure I've had a busted laptop working without the LVDS cable connected, simply by enabling dual screen output.
This is usually a button on the top row of the keyboard.
Maybe something like this would do the job.
