Hello folks! Im recently having some issues with minecraft.. So the problem is when i launch the game it immidietly starts to lag around 20-40fps.. People get like thousand frames with almost the same hardware yet i really dont know whats wrong with my PC. Allocating rams updating java, installing optifine/sodium and stuff didnt really change much. What do i do?

Specs:
XFX RX580 GTS XXX
Ryzen 5 3400g
Dual channel 16gb 3200mhz
B450m-a pro max 2

Yeah the cpu lacks a little but i think it really shouldnt be that bad.. CPU usage stays around %70 80s drops to 60 time to time wheras gpu stays around 300-500mhz at 32 chunks but the lag is just unbearable. (Im not suspecting of throttling either cpu temps peak around 70 degrees) Is this driver related??

Maybe. I'd suggest installing a monitoring program like HWinfo. It will tell you what's going on. CPU@70% and GPU@35% suggest something else is the cause. Make sure it's the only program running. Check HDD utilization, network utilization, power and temps. Check RAM for faults.

Is it vanilla Minecraft? I have the same issues running this antique and still haven't been able to figure it out.
On a Phenom II X4 with 4GB and a HD6570 it ran fine on then JRE6.x but I can't find those binaries anymore and they'll just auto-update anyway.
Something serious happened when moving to the RX 580 because I can run most modern games just fine on this VR coffin but anything from DX7 era, Java SE5, anything that directly obsoletes some old AMD features, it just runs terrible. Probably doesn't help Minecraft's case that it's not optimized for the current generation of CPUs either. If I can't figure it out, good luck.

Hi Dolan,

I'm stuck with the same issue as you. I have an rx 580 8gb too but it lag in minecraft..
I was on a gtx 560ti and i was working at 500+ fps...
So i you have found out how to repair it, tell me.

Minecraft Java Edition is heavily CPU dependent and relies on a fast single thread. Even the most powerful processors will struggle to run it smoothly with 32 chunks. In addition, the game will always stutter when creating new chunks, especially immediately after loading into a world. The graphics card's performance is irrelevant when running the game without custom shaders.

But lowering the render and simulation distance to something more managable should eliminate most of these problems. Here's the current vanilla JE 1.20.4 running on tweleve year old hardware @ 1080p, using an FX-8300 CPU and an HD7970 GPU:

Yeah i allocated 12gigs of ram and now it runs a LOT smoother than before. And minecraft doesnt hesistate to eat it all up lol.

I'll tell you all my experience with my new ryzen 5 5600 when it arrives. Will probably explain if it was my terrible cpu all along or my outdated amd gpu not being able to run newer minecraft versions properly.

The Minecraft game engine is monumental piece of software engineering that is both slow as shit and renders graphics that are ugly as shit, while consuming far more resources than it should to do this. Microsoft has no interest in fixing it because Minecraft basically prints money for them regardless of what they do with it, so the game runs like a pig on even the best hardware - and always will.

Update: Its smooth as butter now it was the cpu all the time. Also literally doubled my fps with shaders on.

The 3400g igp replaces some PCIE lane estate support is why.

I run it on a Amd fx8350 with a rx580 and 32 GB of memory with no issue.

I've had constant stuttering since 1.15. There's a lag spike every 5th tick or so. It scales with framerate. 60fps will have about a 60ms spike every few ticks, while 120fps it's more like 30ms spike. You can brute force better performance with new hardware, but the frametime spikes are still there.

For 1.7.10. and 1.12.2, I use a java build that supports Shenandoah Garbage Collection, and added the launch argument "-XX:+UseShenandoahGC". This boost fps and reduced stuttering when playing with too many mods. Sadly it doesn't seem to help with 1.15 and later.

I also noticed the directional audio is still broken. It was broken in 1.13 when they updated OpenAL. This bug was reported many times and is marked as, "Won't fix".
