You may have a non programmable voltage controller then.

No offence but STOP scaring people with your misguided propaganda. Bold font uhhh ahhhh, seriously, this is sad.

I have had: 4 gtx 660, 1 660Ti, 2 650Ti boost, 1 770, 1 680 and 1 780Ti - I have use modified bios on all of them with unlocked voltages and NOT a single card failure.

Just like thousands of people around the world on different community forums. So please, stop spreading miss-information.

OP - there are many guides, just google 'gtx 680 owners club' - that will take you to overclockes forums. You will find all the info there, including already moded bioses. It's really ease to mod Kepler bios.

It's only misinformation if it doesn't apply to you. Which it probably doesn't. Or the OP, for that matter. But who knows for sure? I don't have any experience with that particular card. So I don't know what works or doesn't. Doesn't sound like you do either.

I must of struck a nerve in you and offended you with my Signature. Well too bad. By the way thanks for the thread necro. I've been seeing numerous people kill all kinds of cards doing bios mods which don't fix anything. You don't like what I have to say? There's the door.

Successes don't mean there are not failures, I too have flashed probably hundreds and modded many of them myself, it does not change the fact that the quantity of new members that join do so because they have bricked cards through flashing is bigggg.

As a matter a fact the 680 I had was a Zotac 2GB reference model, I can upload a moded bios I still have kept as a backup. So YES, I can speak about OP's card.

I must of struck a nerve in you and offended you with my Signature. Well too bad. By the way thanks for the thread necro. I've been seeing numerous people kill all kinds of cards doing bios mods which don't fix anything. You don't like what I have to say? There's the door.

How about you use that door - you have contributed ZERO - that's absolutely nothing constructive. Fear mongering that's all it is and by someone that has no concrete information on the subject and even less knowledge. Seriously dude, what a crap post - actually if I could give you the shittiest post award for the dumbest post I've read on forums thus far this year(probably could even include few month from last years as well) - you deserve it. So here it's all yours... tada!! (giving shitty post award)

For all others interested - the point of modded bioses is:

A) greater performance (major gains to be had)
B) Adjusting fan profile (some like it quiet, some like it cool)
C) Putting it all together and not having to use MSI afterburner at all

Successes don't mean there are not failures, I too have flashed probably hundreds and modded many of them myself, it does not change the fact that the quantity of new members that join do so because they have bricked cards through flashing is bigggg.

The bricking is a result of:
-wrong bios for the wrong board 99.9% of the time

It's impossible to adjust the voltage to have the card fry on boot. Unbricking a card is super easy as well, everyone these days has a in igpu - boot with it and flash the backed up bios.

Further more - cards dying from moded bioses are a result of weak vrm(most of the time) and poor cooling. That is why it is important to read up on the particular cards.

However with KEPLER cards - Nvidia tightened the max voltage soo much that a soft mod can only unlock trivial amounts of extra voltage in most cases. FERMI was a different story, OP was asking about a Kepler card.

I've been overclocking over 10 GTX 600 series cards recently and had no idea how bad some of the chips would be for overclocking but I managed to big gains on cheap used GPUs. To be frank these cards are essentially end of life as is but are fine for cheap starter desktops I build with 1080p resolutin and can be easily upgraded in the future.
  • The blower style cards I've OCd which consisted of gtx 660 ti, 670 and 680 struggled with much past 1200mhz and didnt like voltage increases I added in bios, these are obviously lower binned chips with lower grade vrms.
  • The non reference cards all managed to run 1254mhz with 1.2 or 1.212v
  • Some of the GPUs had very low boost limits at 1100-1150mhz, the worst being an asus gtx 660 ti direct cu ii standard edition which had a boost limit of 1100mhz. There was a bios update on the Asus site to unlock a 1150mhz boost limit which the chip hit without overclocking tools but this was still very low. With a modded bios I was able to increase the direct cu II boost to 1254mhz which it hit constantly without throttling.
  • Out of all the GPUs I tested I only got a hold of 3 able to reach 1306mhz at 1.212v none would go higher and would quickly crash.
  • All the chips were able to handle at least 300mhz extra memory speed, my gigabyte windforce handled 600mhz but I added 500mhz for a stable overclock in bios.
I was a little shocked with my MSI half width gtx 750 ti which has GPU boost 2.0 and should also be better binned GPU and memory chips which was able to run at 1410mhz on the core up from the default in game 1100mhz boost.
