unstable northbridge/chipset?

after a long, long, battle with my computer for stability, it has occurred to me that my pci-bus is the cause of all of my problems. it also doesn't help that my NB heat sink is in the middle of a hot air-pocket in my case. I was just wondering what signs, if any, would be apparent from this sort of instability?

hmmm, you usually give the chipset extra juice for higher fsbs and stuff, i suppose that if you experience problems with hdd's and stuff like that, you might have instability of the chipset.

no, the sata arrays are fine, actually. it's my network card, the onboard nic, onboard sound, and soundcard that have problems {not all running at the same time}. the pci-e bus has no problems. the voltage for the NB is on auto, as it doesn't have enough air moving by it to cool it more.

Well put some airflow over the NB, being aware of a potential problem still requires a solution.

But it may make sense as to why you're having issues, in a way. Kinda suprising that only the PCI bus is affected whereas the rest is okay. Get some cooling on that NB. Check by guide's section on Cooling, has some good info in there! It's a cheap start to that may lead to a solution.

Benchmark Scores It does boot up? I think.
Make sure you use most recent chipset drivers.

>.< drivers come w/ catalyst, so they are always new, and because asus was kind enough to turn the cpu socket 90 degrees on mobo, I can't put airflow over the NB without taking out my case fans, then I starve my 2900 for air, and I can't put on a new cooler because this one has a dent to make room for long cards. but the voltage is on auto, perhaps heat isn't actually an issue?
