I have a low clock version of Xeon Gold 6138 ES ebay link, it was a workstation pc but i dont work on that pc now, and i want to use it for gaming. I understand the games not utilize the 40 threads so i disabled the HT (i got higher turbo clocks but still only 2,8-3ghz). I have a Tesla M40 that is converted to TitanX so it is average/good for fullhd gaming (GTX1070 performance) but i know that my cpu single core performance is very low, like a skylake i3 and that is a limitation i think for most games. My motherboard: Supermicro X11SPM-F
So i decided to upgrade for a higher turbo, fewer core cpu.
Can i use Intel Xeon W-3223 in my motherboard? ebay link
Not on the support list but the socket is the same, mobo supports 165w tdp and there was Xeon Gold 5218R cpu for few weeks testing in this motherboard so it supports newer Cascade Lake (Refresh) core.
Or there is a limitation to not use workstation cpu on a server motherboard?
Or is there a better deal for this socket for 100-150 usd?

Gotta be careful with QS and ES, as not all will work with normal boards.

Would also be best to stick with listed processors for supporting.

I have the knowledge and somewhat* working tools (from chinese x99 motherboard bios editors) to mod the bios for ES microcodes on this LGA 3647 board. My current cpu is an early ES and that is why lower clocked than QS or release version and it is not good for gaming. (only ~3ghz for 4-8 core turbo, and ~2,2ghz for 20 core turbo)

*when i changed the microcode to an early version in the newest bios somehow damaged the onboard lan firmware so it is not working (except the onboard web management) but i use an usb3 to gigabit lan adapter, of course the QS version is like the retail so i think no microcode changing needed.
