after a full system format a few days ago i have only just got round to installing my ipod. And much to my disapointment i find that USB 2.0 isn't working and i only have usb1. This is annoying. I have searched about the internet and found that for windows xp is supposed to install them itself when service pack 1 is installed. i have service 2 installed. and i cannot find why my usb 2.0 isn't working. pls help

Me again :p... Had the same problem, and there can be a few reasons. It has to be enabled in the bios on some boards, only certain ports on the computer support the usb2 (really dumb if you ask me), sometimes the windows usb2 drivers just don't work for it. Try those, one of them should work. ;)

ok well there aren't any options in my bios for it. and i've tried switching ports that doesn't work either. so i'm pretty stuck. but i do know tha my ports are usb 2.0 cos my ipod is charging off them and it the manual it says that only happens on usb 2.0 ports. :p pls help

So the ipod/computer isn't transfering at usb2 speeds? Go into you device manager and see if it shows the usb as usb2.

-Dan

nah it shows it as standard usb host controller and aparantly it should show as enhanced usb controller.

i have tried plugging my ipod into ports on the back and front of my comp and no sucess

See if you can get drivers from MSI and install them. Even though XP says it has the drivers the ones from the manufactors should get it working if the windows ones don't.

yeh i was just thinking about that. but the only drivers they supply are for windows 98 and 2000 but then on my old mobo that my dad now has i just installed win98/2k drivers anyway and it worked fine. lol so i'm gonna try that.

ok i'm having problems with this too. i can't find a .exe file for my usb 2.0 drivers. just a bunch of files. i know if i use my asus mobo drivers from my old mobo i can install the usb2.0 drivers from that. could that work or not? pls help or if you could find me drivers for usb 2.0 that have a setup file. this reallly sucks as i need my ipod for tomorow and there isn't any music on it yet pls help :( :( :( :( :(

I looked and i can't find any on the net for XP. Just go into device manager and update the driver file for the usb. The it will ask where it is, put your board cd in and let it search through the disk. It should find them, you may have to be a little for specfic for windows like showing it the usb file on the disk, then it should install the drivers.

-Dan

when i try that i just says there arn't any better drivers for this device. this sucks. i have emailed msi but i doubt they will help me atall.

Ok, then unistall your drivers for the usb first then do that.

-Dan

you can't. windows wont let me. as soon as you click new hardware it just finds all the usb stuff and installs it itself. sometimes i really hate windows.

Damn windows...you should be able to cancel it. I'll have to get back to you, I have to go eat. ;) Just keep trying different things and it should go, thats what I did.

hm during this hour of darkness for me i signed up to the MSI forum and it turns out me and this other guy with a slightly different board from me are both having the same problem. but only after we updated our bios. cos i'm pretty sure my ipod wasn't complaining when i first installed it. so... heres the link http://forum.msi.com.tw/index.php?board=28.0

as it turns out MSI screwed up the most recent bios and forgot to add usb 2.0 option to enable it in in to there bios. idits. but a guy has created a moded version that should work ok. i'll keep you posted :p

That could do it. :)

yep i done it like 10mins ago works fine as soon as i booted my advanced usb host controller appeard and my ipod works fine now. Thanks for the help ;)
