Hi Guys,

I was wondering if anyone could help with something? I'm using a 32gb mushkin nano usb drive in my laptop as additional storage for my paltry SSD, but I've noticed that it's been corrupting my files.

I've tested the drive with a utility called chkflsh and it reports the usb is fine and I have scanned for viruses and come up with nothing.

This is extremely annoying as I'm using BTSync to backup my drive with my other home/work computers and so this is causing the files across all computers to become corrupt.

I've also run memtest to check my ram, as I thought that might be causing the issues and it's come up with nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas what happening?

Thanks for any help.

Try a different USB port possibly? The flash drive controller might be failing. I'd say try a different 32GB flash drive if you can.

Format it, try another port

Some exploits and viruses will corrupt files. Have you done any scans with a good AV Program?

are you sure its genuine flash drive? Some chinese fakes will say that they are 32GB in OS and will let u copy a lot to them, but they are really only around 4GB and files on them are corrupted.

just take this flash and copy a lot of big files on it (a movie or something), then try and play them to see if they work.

Hi guys. Thanks for the response and sorry for the late reply, I just finished work.

I've just re-examined it an noticed it's only happening with video files, but it is any video file from 1mb all the way up to 1gb, my other files haven't been affected like i first thought.

I'm sure it's an original drive and I've scanned it with Kaspersky. I'm going to try and see if it does it in another computer later, but it's really strange.

When I initially copy the file to the USB, it will be fine and play fine, but it will corrupt over time and become more and more corrupt as time goes on. I've had multiple USBs that have failed or stopped working in someway, but I've never encountered this issue before.

what about if you zip it and put it on that drive

It's weird, it works fine when I rar a large file on the drive. I also just tried a large video file from my main rig and it worked fine. It quite strange, it's only been happening with video files and a few rar files that i'd downloaded.

disable thumbnail generation if you have vidoe thumbnails enabled and have a explorer window open on the drive it causes bad mojo if you don't use safe-eject

do you use safe eject method?

Id say that drive is bad.

do you use safe eject method?

It's a nano drive so it never comes out of my laptop.

Id say that drive is bad.

I'm thinking the same thing, but I can't get a replacement unless I can somehow show it is bad. It works on my main rig, though I probably need to test it more extensivly

It can pass all the tests in the world and still be considered defective

is write cache buffer flushing enabled ?

Write caching is disabled in general, should I try enabling it?

you could but make sure you use safe-eject if you do
