I recently bought a used RX 580 off of the local marketplace that was described as the following (freely translated from German)
"Card ran for 3 years with custom watercooling. Since 1 Week it only posts in BIOS and shows a black image in Windows. Same Problem with original cooler"
I asked him via PM for further details
"I checked the hardware for damages; Short-circuits, burn and smoke traces, Heat damage. I didn't find anything visible. I didn't try any software troubleshooting since I'm not too experienced with it"
I decided to take it and sell as broken not fixable. When I put it into my PC standalone it doesn't display anything via DP or HDMI. When I put it into the second slot and put my RX590 that works in the first slot, I get an image from the 590. However, after the BIOS the problems begin.
When I boot into Windows, I first get a black screen after the spinning circle and a blue screen after ~10 seconds. However, the error code is cut off every time I tried it. Will provide it in attachment nonetheless. I was able to boot into Safe Mode, however I was not able to do anything useful there yet, because GPU-Z, Driver and VBIOS Flasher didn't work.
When I boot into HiveOS Live USB (Ubuntu Based GNU/Linux Distro) with both cards, I actually got a post and I am able to interact with the system. However, only my main RX590 is detected correctly and the log shows that amdgpu is unable to initialize the card. The RX580 is detected in the PCIe Slot, however doesn't spit out Temp, Core Frequency or Power-consumption. The HiveOS Web-Control allows me to see the card, and even backup and flash VBIOS Images. I dumped the original one and flashed all Model-specific (MSI RX580 Gaming X 8g) BIOSes in the TechPowerUP Database, and while Hive said the flashing was successful I am still not able to get more out of the card. The problems don't change, and amdgpu Driver still fails. I'll provide all the errors I made a pic of in the attachments, if I should provide further information please let me know.
Do you have any idea how to save the GPU? Thank you very much in advance!
Best regards.
