Using a Switch between a T1 and a Router

Hey all. This is my first post, so hi.

What I'm trying to do is the following:

T1 ----> Switch (LinksysSRW208) ----> Router.
\----> Servers

I have a series of static IP addresses that I use. My general setup has the T1 plug into the switch, and then the switch into the servers. I assign each server its own IP address. But I'm testing a router right now, trying to set it up for VPN, and I need to test it on that T1 without disconnecting the servers from the T1. So, this isn't a usual setup, I'm just doing this for testing purposes and it's annoying the heck out of me.

The Cisco router I'm using is an 881W. When I connect it directly to the T1, I have zero issues. The router, set up correctly, connects to the internet and acts like a router should. But for my testing purposes, I need to connect it to that T1 without unplugging the other servers. All my knowledge is self-taught, so I'm not particularly good with all the terminology. But shouldn't it be fairly simple to place a switch between T1 modem and router? The router is configurable but I don't see anything that would cause the problems I'm seeing.

Any help would be massively appreciated.

Thank you,

Shaun

Yes, that configuration shouldn't be a problem.

To get it out of the way, you haven't given the router one of the IP's being used by any of the servers, right?

And by 'problems', do you mean that you're getting nothing from the router when connected to the switch? Can you at least get to it's Configuration page?

Correct. The router is using a unique IP that's not in use by any of the others.

I can get to the router config page no problem. When I test the connection in the Switch---->Router configuration, it tells me there's no exit interface and I have no connection to the internet. However, if I then plug the router directly into the T1 without changing any settings, it connects just fine. It's got me stumped. I appreciate any insight you might have.
