I finally, after several hours of tweaking, got UT3 to get past the splash screen to play the game. I have been able to play a few matches, and the game is the best DM FPS out there. Now. Now I get random CTDs, mostly at the start of the match, but it could happen any time. Ive tweaked with the settings just a bit, and have just reinstalled .net 3.5 sp1 last night, going to check if it works when I get home. Suggestions are very very very very very very welcome, i love this game and want to play it.

I am assuming this is downloaded from Steam? If it is, try checking the integrity of the files downloaded.

Also, did you install the latest DirectX? Kernel32.dll is a memory fault. Does this error occur during any other operations?

Only options I can offer is to check to see if Drivers are up to date, and your not using 3rd party drivers, check the .Net which you said you did but did you reinstall it from the Setup or delete it from Windows Components and then reinstall? Also check to see if system files integrity is ok. To do that go to Run> and type SFC /Scannow

Make sure the Windows XP Cd is in the drive.

All things in System specs are true except for the 9800GX2. I know have a 4870.
Thank you for the response, I will let everyone know everything I've tried:

Reinstalling drivers (the right way)
Reinstalling the game
Reinstalling the .net distributable 3.5 SP1
Reinstalling Direct X
Edited UTEngine.ini (this is what got me past the splash screen)
Reinstalled all related drivers (sound, etc...)
Disabled Antivirus applications
No Current Overclocks
Tried "Checking integrity" of game files
Tried running in different compatibility modes
Tried running with -nosound
Tried tweaking with the CCC settings(is there a DXT textures option? Ive heard it was supposed to fix this, but it doesnt show up in my CCC (yes I do have advanced options, no im not retarded, thank ya))

All suggestions welcome. Remember 4870, not 9800GX2. WinXP 32 bit. no FFDshow, is disabled.

It actually brings up 2 different errors: kernel32.dll and UT3.exe.

Bump, hoping to fix this today guys!

Last time i had a error like that i just downloaded the file and replaced it!!
You can get the file here

Kernell32.dll is not the piece being shut down, it is UT3.EXE with mod name kernel32.dll.

Ooohhh 4870...I have heard of issues with the 4850/4870 causing kernel32.dll's and as of current I am not sure of a work around at the moment. I know a couple players in a couple games I had played were bitching about it.

Have you tried an older driver or possibly a Beta driver for the card?

Also on the ATI catalyst turn Vsync OFF. Let it decide by application. If it is..Then turn it off in UT3 and see if that change's anything.

Also try disabling Smoothing in the game as well..some people have had luck with that. :toast:

thank ya, ill try it all.I see you play DOWII, how is the multiplayer?

I played a lot of single player. DOWII Multi was OK, but I couldn't really get into it.. I heard they changed a ton of stuff. I'm hooked on Sacred 2 right now tho.

Download the UT3 patch.
Also, net 3.5 is dumb, just uninstall and use net 2.0, thats all you really need.
