hi have playing with my cpu again and i still havent done the v-core mod mostly because i need to get a soldering iron! but i was overclocking and i managed to get to 3.2ghz which i didnt think was possible! it wasnt stable but im thinking this could be because it didnt have enought v-core??

is there anyway i can have like a v-core check as i know when first booting into windows you normally ise 100% of your cpu and therefore use the most v-core your ever going to use!

when i go over 260htt it boots fine through bois untill it trys to boot into windows and then i get the message saying" windows\system32\config\system"
am i right in thinking this is because my overclock isnt stable?

is there a program i can run that can tell me how much v-core i would use if i iwas booting rather then keep on trying to overclock and then think its fine untill i boot into windows?

by the way i have underclocked my ram so its not that!

also i might do a different v-core mod so rather then goin from 1.4v to 1.55 im thinking of going from 1.4v to 1.65v is this worth it or will the 1.55v get the most out of the chip that i can?

The only way to accurately test stability is boot into windows and run something like prime95. If you're having trouble just getting windows to boot then you need to turn down your overclock or turn up your vcore, but watch your temperature too.

Also for the vcore mod I would start with 1.55 to be safe because at 1.65 it's going to run very hot so unless you have water cooling or very good air I would stick with the lower voltage.

The 1.65V mod will give you more overclock options than 1.55V mod but brings with it some issues, firstly google "athlon 64 venice voltage" (asuming you have a Venice? the principle is the same for the Sandy but I think they are a little better at handling the heat) and you will see that generally it is not recommended to go above 1.60V, some do it fine, some can fry it's pretty much luck of the draw but one thing is for certain....the life of your CPU will be dramatically reduced, thats is a fact.

Secondly, is heat, some say that for example that 2800Mhz at 1.65V (where it has been successful) produces double the temps of stock speed at 1.4V roughly so whatever you were at stock on full load (say 35C for example is going to give you temps of around 70C with 1.65) now venice cores DO NOT like operating at those temps for prolonged periods, and again you are reducing the life of your CPU if you dont just get the BSOD!

thinking i might just go up2 1.550-core then as ive have looked into it and it should be fine on a sandy as like u said they tend not to heat up so much!so should still get a good 4-5years no problem!

just use prime to look if your oc is stable(at least 6 hours without error)

and for vcore watching u can use cpu-z
