My Steam Deck games no longer launch on the beta channel... beta channel worked flawless until today. 0/10 wtf valve.

Steam Beta for Windows 11, updated today as well, its the clunkiest mess I have ever seen, very grid and block based, lags as well, its not curved and smooth like normal non-beta channel.

Valve rarely makes changes from beta to normal push out... this is the end of Steam for me. It's fucking nightmare. If you don't believe me change to steam beta update and see for yourself. Why fix something that isn't broken? It looks worse now...

I went to normal channels for now... better enjoy the last version of Steam I like while I can I guess.

sigh.

I stopped using the beta channel after my RMA replacement Deck soft-bricked itself when I enabled it.

I ended up imaging the backup from my original Steam Deck and haven't had any issues since.

been using beta for many many years on Win 10 and 11
instead of edit:

lot has changed, its square blocks, cursor has changed from pointer to a hand but screenshot won't let me capture that... also where you change steam beta update or normal channel, location for that has changed, two screenshots below, this is on windows 11.

hard to tell different from screenshot, but you can def tell a different in real time... very annoying update...

I don't get it. It is beta, it won't always work properly.

I have used steam beta for 7+ years... 0 issues until now... and from my experience they rarely change stuff from beta to stable push. so i am stuck with these changes most likely, and I don't like that one bit.

Wow 7 years and no issues? Damn, those are some amazing devs.

indeed, which is why I am so shocked by this

I am ok with the darker color change and brighter font, prefer if it stayed the way it is, but its not horrible.

changing location of items in settings annoys living crap out of me though, no reason for it.

and it feels clunky, which I have never experienced before when navigating the UI... its very much more a rigid design instead of smooth flowing. ugh. hate it.

just read this article, but the author of that article must not use steam deck beta, cause steam deck beta worked just fine for me for 3 weeks until this update, now its shit.

i really hate this update. it just doesn't feel like steam anymore. ah well, back to FFXIV I go, been wanting to go back for awhile now anyway.

I've just tried it. It definitely changed, but the settings are less fragmented compared to before. They unified the UI of big picture and desktop mode, and made everything closer to the steam deck OS. I don't have performance issues on my PC. What I do dislike however, is that they are using the Xbox button to get into the settings, Wich doesn't play well with Xbox game bar. Besides that, just one week should be enough to get used to the new UI.

yeah I overreacted a little bit. I just have been used to steam beta never breaking anything, and I enjoyed the consistency over the years.

Steam Beta channel on Deck has made it so none of my games launch anymore, and it worked just fine since I bought it.

I switched to normal channel and all works fine though. eh, just frustrating.

nice to know it's not just me....

The 2010 UI was stale, good riddance IMO. I really like this new one. Its design language is sound and I've grown quite attached to it. The new notification area is awesome and they've finally fixed the download manager, settings menus and lots of things that they've just tacked onto the old 2010 UI for years, and it seems there are still things largely unimplemented or unfinished. Understandable for beta, but overall, I like where it's headed. The improved in-game overlay alone makes this update worth it. It's useful now, I especially love the notes feature.

I hope there's another overhaul in the game shelf thing they've made a while back, as it currently still shows like it did on the 2010 UI version of it. I really don't like it, I preferred the previous game list with the news feed they used to have in its stead.

this new one has some glitches is my only issue. for example steam beta, go to your profile name, it used to be you could hover over your profile name, and a drop down menu would appear so you could "view activity feed" now you have to click it instead of just hovering... little changes like that are annoying the living shit out of me.

my brain is so used to hovering there, that i end up waiting 20 seconds thinking its just not working or something lol

yhea it works when the window is active, if it's not you'll still get highlights on the text, but no hover menu. And that one point makes it a bit confusing about what's going on exactly with the app, you expect it to work like a webpage would (hover even when inactive) but it's only doing half of it

LOL maybe the beta is broken now because it is being used for testing remote controlled tripod gun emplacements in ******* (per recent news) they were using modded SteamDeck's. We are living in such weird times.

I don't know who it was in another thread that told to me to clear the Steam Cache, but I did that and fixed a lot of my issues, I have never had to do that before. I guess switching between beta and stable a few times made it go a little wacky on me.

Whoever mentioned that to me though, thank you if you see this.
