a single 7950gt, will do a good job, the quad sli only give better results at higher resolutions, and you can add one later

so you think it will do better than a single x1900xtx? or is my only advantage is quad later which would not make sense I'm just a tweaker not a gamer but love to play and get my ass kicked in high rez

it will do a bit better in some games and/or benchmarks and the x1900xtx will do better in others, what about a x1950xtx?

Quad SLI is always going to be a complete waste of money because Nvidia will stop caring about it when DX10 hits. I say 7900GS SLI is your best bet. It will keep nice high minimum FPS and cost about the same as a X1900XTX, but outperform it in games.

yeah, but x1900xtx is about 300, whereas 7900gs is about 380~400

i like x1900xtx right now, as far as price/performance ratio right now

if that's the way it is, where that's the only store, those are the prices, those are the funds, etc etc

it's 50$ for x1900xtx or $150 for 7900gs sli... hrmmm

i see from your specs you are using a 19" ws monitor? is res 1440x900?
answer that and we'll see what's a good fund allocation plan

Yes 1440x900 700:1 contrast ratio nice for photoshop
that 7950 wont cost a dime except the warrenty which has been a great way to get video card updates and they know it. the store employees get comisson on that only so they tell you up front overclocking is ok or trade it in once a year. went from ati 8700 to 9700 to 9800pro to x800xt to this 7800 gs over a 4 year period :D each time only costing me reup on the warrenty and they dont keep track of it all highly recomend it cost about 40 bucks more per card so if I go sli 7900 gs it will be 249x2 40x2 about 600 - 349 but that 7950 would be a trade in + 40

personally, if u absolutely must have a new card id go for a 7900gt, add a vf900 clock it, save the rest of your $$$ and sit back and wait for dx10 cards which should be arriving very soon.

well like I said if you buy the warrenty when the dx10 cards are out its a matter of smoking it with some crafty methods and paying the diffrence for the new card so. I think I will go for the 7950 add my vf900 and memory coolers and see what it will do.my problem is it will be days before I can tear it down and put the new parts in and I will be forced to use a 9550 till than is this some kind of sickness?

i rec the 7950 (or maybe something cheaper if possible, and pay for your warranty with what's left of the 350. ie, get a 310 card, and so on)

do this, and then trade up again once dx10 hits

something to consider tho: get the card that will decrease in value the least before you trade it back in for dx10 (i can't decided if i think the newer card will retain more value, or an older gen one, but research it, i'm sure there are some studies out there)

I have just about talked myself into the x1900xtx I like the numbers it generates
this is a tough choice. I have been waiting for someone to post 7950 gt 3d06 numbers too see
