Hello ,
I want to use a cd bay add on power supply for a side project. The thing is it only turns on from a molex plug from main power supply ,, how can I skip the molex plug so it turns on ?? I’m thinking it senses one or both positive currents and switch’s on . Looking for an easy way like jumping a normal psu .. thanks ahead !

So you are wanting to use a 5.25 bay psu and not the standard psu?

One of these guys?

Edit: found the spec sheet (for the smaller unit)!

Pg 5 details what you're looking for.

Without disassembling the unit, or doing further research, I'd assume the PSU is switched to active/on via a +5V or +12V relay.

Note: On Server 'slot-in' SMPSs it's not uncommon to have a 'standby' rail, that can be used to fool the unit into powering up.
If this was like FSP's ODM server PSUs, there would be a detailed datasheet. Unfortunately, I'm not finding one.

There may be a way to bridge the standby rail to the 'wake up' detection But, you'd probably need to open the unit up, and probe it while powered on. Which, is one of the biggest 'no-nos' in amateur modding (especially, the APFC stage in the PSU could easily maim or kill)
Without opening up the PSU... check for standby voltage on any DC-side pin (while the unit is powered, but not 'awake/active')

Finally, there's always 'emulating' the condition(s) the PSU is expecting to 'wake up'

I'd try running +5V and Gnd over from a USB power bank, and connect that to Pin 1 (and 2, gnd) in the Molex.
If that didn't work, I'd try a USB-PD power source (commanded to +9V or +12V) and connected to Pin 1 (and 2, gnd) in the Molex.
Depending on what your project is, having a batterybank shoved in somewhere, might not be a problem.

OBTW, these little 5.25 bay PSUs bring up a very recent 'issue':

Even FSP would not attach 450W worth of PCIe power with 12 pins, they used 14.

Honestly it would be easier to adapt a 1U PSU to 5.25" bay than attempting to use one of those deathtraps

I think you can buy an adapter that let you connect two PSU together. Those experience enough can manually make they own connection.

@thread

Thermaltake made a single & dual bay PSU. I can only find the dual bay version. See here Thermaltake W0158RU 650 W VGA Power Supply - Newegg.com

What exactly do you want to use it for? I wouldn't put it in a computer even back then, but today there are wa-a-a-ay better options.
