Vista network problem

Ive installed Vista on my older P4 computer.

Everything installed fine, no issues.

The network all installed properly too. Both the onboard LAN device and PCI WLAN device.

The only problem is that the onboard LAN (cable connection) is REALLY slow. Both copying files over the network (from my computer) and downloading off the internet is slow.

Its weird...the internet is fast, its only when i go to download a file. For example, if i was to download the ati driver, going to the website will be really quick, then downloading the file will go at 5kb/s. Normally, it goes at 1.2mb/s off the ati site (just tested on this comp).

I tried downloading using the wireless network card, and even that goes at 800kb/s! (And thats on the same computer with the WIRED network card going at 5kb/s).

Ive tried different cables, no luck. Just to mention, it was working all good in XP.

Anyone know wats going on? (Please dont make this a "flame Vista" thread ;))

lol, ive run it on stacks of servers.

All my driver websites (abit, card reader, etc) as well as speedtest. Same results, wired gets really slow speeds, wireless gets what its meant to.

I let windows install my driver, once i realised it was stuffing up, i uninstalled it, downloaded the driver from abit (the XP one, because they got no vista one), it installed fine but still same problem.

hmmm ....thats odd.What about firewall ? Are you running vistas FW or a 3rd party FW?

Vista's FW. I ruled the FW issue out, because it works fine on the same computer with the wireless connection.

(If something was to be blocked, it would be blocked on both the wired and wireless, not just the wired)

WOW , I'm stumped ...I did notice the drivers for that board are mostly 2004 with a couple of mid 2005's ... maybe that hardware is just struggling with the new IP stack ??? Although I dont find that assumption acceptable..Srry and good luck.

Weird....i just uninstalled the driver again and re-installed the downloaded ones, and its working perfectly again.

I think every other time i installed the downloaded driver, windows was installing the pre-configured one, so two drivers were installing at once, because this last time, i disabled the driver then installed the downloaded ones. (So windows wouldnt pick it up when it was uninstalled)

Just for the future, does anyone know how to turn off windows automatically installing drivers?
