Dear all,
just recently I bought three Seagate IronWolf NAS HDD ST6000VN006 HDDs to rebuild a RAID1 on my Linux Fileserver (running LUbuntu 24.04.2 LTS). What happened now twice was corruption on the data. When I then check the RAID, I always got drive sounds that I never heard in normal operation. I added that sound as zipped mp3 to this post. Interestingly the first time it was one specific drive...and the second time another. When I take the drives out and check and format them and even erase all data with random bytes, then this sound is not to be heard at all and the drive performs fine and no errors are detected.
My fileserver houses those 3 HDDs (configured as Software RAID1) and one boot-SSD. It is properly cooled by several fans and HDD temperature is always below 40oC.
Any idea what could cause the corruption and sound?
