Weird Win 10 font issue for nearly whole of system

Booted up one of my general purpose PCs this morning after it being off for over a day, & discovered this weird bunch of gooble-de-gook type of characters infecting nearly everything - this is on Win 10 Pro. Not sure if others have had this very recently or not?
Any ideas or suggestions to fix it? navigating to control panel or system settings indicates the right language I prefer is definitely enabled ok. I rebooted the system as well, but the same problem is still there. Have enclosed a screenshot of some of the problem. Lucky I'm familiar with where to click to get this screenshot because otherwise it was a nightmare seeing the right prompts & menus to click on!

Hi,
Restore a system image if you have one.

Have you tried changing the font?

Edit: It looks like it's set to the Marlett font.

So the question is, do I recognize any font? No! :D But seriously, how many of them have a 90's Windows logo? (check the DVD drive name) This pic was among the first to pop up when I googled "font with windows logo"..

Hi,
You might even try entering safe mode.

I tried uninstalling Marlett font but nothing happens...
Went to the MS store & installed Arial Nova, rebooted & its fixed the problem but now something else is broken... attempting to type into the search field in the bottom task bar has no input from the keyboard & the usual window that pops up as you type is completely blank.

Restore font settings seems to be the easiest thing to do.

Safe mode, and then restart back to normal might also be worth a shot.

Thanks, I tried that but clicking on Restore default font settings button automatically ticks the check box for Hide fonts based on language settings & the OK button is greyed out, so can't do.

The registry have several font settings apparently. If some of those are pointing to the wrong font, or to a font that you've uninstalled, things might not work as expected.

Try restore font settings maybe.

System restore or hijack this!

Like I already posted, have tried restoring font settings but the button to ok it is greyed out & thus can't be used.

Yeah, looks like I'll have to try that but trying to avoid it.

Oh, that part of the reply wasn't there when I posted. Or, I think so.. :D

Anyway, changing the registry like described in my first link might be a way around it (with the stock Segoe fonts in step 3, no need to change that right now).

Hi,
Might try sfc /scannow :/
Maybe disk is bad and corrupted the os.

Think safe mode through win-10 funky options if you can read them would rule out os issue and point to third part plus malware of some sort.

Maybe it is because Windows 10 Technical Preview added a function, which blocks untrusted fonts. You needs find more information about this
