which corsair 650w PSU and are you overclocking the CPU?

According to Guru3D testing

Here is our power supply recommendation:
  • GeForce RTX 3070 - On your average system we recommend a 550 Watt power supply unit.
  • GeForce RTX 3080 - On your average system we recommend a 650 Watt power supply unit.
  • GeForce RTX 3090 - On your average system we recommend a 750 Watt power supply unit.
That said why not swap out the RM1000 you are using with your RTX 2080 in this new build and stick the Corsair 650w in your old build?

Sorry its a Coolermaster v550 and no I have no intention of overclocking at the moment.

I would say 1000W but 850W is enough see my system spec, my system uses no more than 450W when fully loaded with some stress test, playing games uses way less than that.

If it were me I would be looking in the 750w and up range. Sometimes overclocking isn't as linear as one would think. I've hurt a couple of 850s by not having enough power. Not nice. Be safe.

Peak power draw for the cpu and gpu is ~650W at max load plus other components which don't use much these days.
You want to have some extra juice so 750W would be probable the lowest call it safe minimum IMO.

well the 10900K can easily pull 250W at 5.1 ghz at full avx load, and the 3080 caps out around 300-330W for most models, so you should be extra fine with a good 750W.

You won't ever really load the CPU and GPU to max unless you're actively trying to (although GPU will run at 330W max at all times), and the 10900K will bounce around 100-150W during gaming. Real world usage you're looking at 480W at worst case.

A corsair 650 will be fine, but may have issues if you OC both components and then run a cinebench/heaven combo or something crazy.

Silly things like p95/ibt/linpack on the cpu side, or furmark and possibly others on the gpu side can draw big power, large transients, general gluttony. Or even projects like f@h can be quite the consumer. Thats how I hurt my other 850s

My components and I took turns being gluttonous.

have to remember power requirements rise faster than the OC being applied.

if you don't OC the CPU it should be fine.

my dark power pro 11 pulls around 580W out of the wall with spikes up to 700W when i play games like Battlefield V. (10850k 5.1 GHz and a 3080 FTW3 Ultra)
