I noticed my 4090 Waterforce Boost clock goes up to 2865mhz

I used 1650 +85mhz and +16 on power limit.

The card rarely goes over 65c

Average temps are around 45-55c

I'm just wondering if I have any gas left in the tank..

yours is better than mine, stock with 1.05V i only do 2790 mhz, and with 1.1V i go up to 2850 mhz.

edit: 1.05V + 85 mhz same as yours, 2865 mhz

Isn't it better to OC the VRAM instead?

What mem settings would you like me to try? I dont think I'm going to get much more out of the ram due to the insufficient cooling.
Its a waterforce so theres little if any cooling for the memory.
:toast:
edit: The memory can be overclocked far more than I had assumed.

I meant give me a average target, i'll research overclocking the memory on the 4090 and see what other people are getting.

Im careful with my cards. Back in 15.

I guess it's ~23.3 GT/S.

Or...

You might stumble upon 25.6 GT/s if you're lucky.

higest stable at 1.05V or 1.1V, my 4090 is a poor overckocker and need 1.1V to reach it's higest stable +- 3000mhz and even 3000 mhz i am not sure i am stable

Well I cant believe how much headroom has been left on the memory.

I seriously had not seen a single overclocking session other than one with dry ice.

I let an OC scanner run and it overclocked the memory from 21020Mhz to 21550Mhz.

Hopefully the Memory and GPU silicon on the card is Golden.

I'll try 21650Mhz next. If I get over 1000mhz OC I'll be a happy chappy.

Ive upgraded my entire rig before, for a 10-15% improvement in performance.

Will post back with my results.
I doubt I'm going to get your recommendation Since 1 GHz = 1 billion Hz, 25.6 GT/s is equivalent to 25.6 billion MHz.

:toast:
BTW The only place I've seen GT/s is in GPU-Z and it is associated with texture fill rate.

Heres my GPU-Z result.

Hmm... my Zotac 4090 extreme AIRO is limited to 110% max power.

Known stable settings:
OC: 2940MHz @ 1050mV
Stock: 2745 @ 1050
Undervolt: 2550 @ 875

The card can just barely hit 3000MHz at 1050mV, but it's not a stable overclock and will cause issues.
I could increase voltage to 1100mV, but I've not really looked into what clocks I can hit with that since at that point I'm deep into the realm of diminishing returns. Presumably, 3GHz stable is possible.

As far as memory goes, I'm honestly not entirely sure. +750 on memory is stable for sure, +1250 might be - I may have been actually pushing core clocks too hard when I last tested that. I'll have to revisit memory overclock, I think.

At stock, mine is usually at 2925, sometimes 2940, at 1.050V. As valuable and scarce as these cards are becoming lately, I'm not going to take any unnecessary risks for an insignificant performance increment.

What voltage are you running that at?

At stock, mine is usually at 2925, sometimes 2940, at 1.050V.
That seems extremely aggressive, at least in comparison to when I last really paid attention to what kind of stock clocks people were getting. Most cards seemed to top out at 27x0 at 1.050V at stock, at least back in 2023.

Your 2940@1050 is basically on par with my best fully stable overclock. When did you buy your card?

It's pretty much the most I can get out of the card before it becomes unreliable. I have a slightly higher core and memory clock for 3DMark runs, but that will crash other benches, so it's right on the razor's edge. It passes OCCT 3D Adaptive stress testing error-free for an hour, though.

The card was purchased new in January of 2023 at Micro Center. I didn't want to get a 4090 at first, but I ended up with it when Nvidia killed any potential plans for a 4080Ti, and the 4080 just didn't seem like as good of a buy in comparison.

My tuf 4090 (non-oc) at stock goes up to 2800mhz, if I mess with the curve I can get up to 3000, but no higher.

But most of the time I'm undervolting and downclocking, I have different presets depending on how demanding the game is: 2400, 2500, 2600, 2800 and 3000 ( this one is basically just for benchmarks). Even the more demanding games usually run 4k60 well at 2600, I went up to 2800 for ff16. But most games are perfectly happy at 2400.

I usually do +~200 - 280ish mhz per the voltage column. But depends on the level for what I can get away with. I think this model has a rather conservative curve by default. So the undervolts are not as drastic as they might sound on some more premium models with more tailored curves....

Anyway sorry got off track a bit, I haven't been able to get higher than like 3015mhz myself sorry. But I also haven't tried that hard since I'm paranoid about the connector (have a launch model so no 12v 2x6 even) plus I only have an 850w psu, and I don't really have a need for anything higher (Yet to come across a modern game that I can't run to a level I'm satisfied with).

Truly?

The lowest voltage I can set is 875mV, where my GPU will do 2550 MHz.

I don't see any point in having a lower preset than that since the GPU will underclock dynamically if the game doesn't fully utilize the card.

Thats true, it can run higher clocks at 875, but let me turn that around on you.

If I'm running fixed fps, and reaching it, what is the point of extra clocks? As long as the frametime graph is nice and flat, I don't see the point. Those dynamic frequencies aren't always so accurate either. Sometimes they overshoot in my experience.

Well that and there were a couple of already kinda unstable games that were having issues with undervolts like that so I dialed everything back a bit.

Besides I'm trying to change the way I think about computers to encourage less unnecessary purchases, basically getting away from biggger number better and closer to.... what is required for this task? And this is.... one manifestation of that.
