So I just bought a 2GB Patriot kit from rottenegg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820220144 and I was wondering what kind of memory chips does this set use. Patriot rep said it could be a Micron D9 or Alpida but he cannot tell me which one. He said he does not know. So I took of the heat spreader and look at the chip for myself. To my surprise it did not say either Micron or Alpida

Here's the description:

Patriot
PM64M8D2BU-25AP0
0704PC

TBZ573-L93G

So what kind of chip is it??? If you know or have an idea of where I can get some information, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

It's impossible to say what kind of chip it is since even the Patriot rep couldn't tell what IC it is. You'll have to OC it and see if it acts like Micron.

btw, you might want to look here...

Say NO to chip relabeling! :(

I got to run at 1000 at 5-5-5-15 as SPD spec at 2.3V but not more. It could be my board (Gigabyte DS3 rev 1). THG had a ram review article in which this sucker did 1000 at 1.8V. Compare this to my result, does it mean my ram's IC is Alpida?

Elpida.yeah probably.
if you had D9GMH f.e you could run it at 1000 with 4-4-4-10 and 2.3V

you could get the HZ series of GSkill.Micron D9GMH chips.
i have them and they are very good.

do you actually need a 1066mhz memory?

You never really need most of the things in life except food, clothes, shelter, and companionship. Everything else is a want. So to answer your question, no I don't need it but I want it, LOL. I want to try 4:5 FSD:DDR ratio at 450:562.5. That comes out to be DDR2 1125 if this kit actually hold up. Plus I don't want to deal with rebates. Hell if this ram is good enough, I'll upgrade my DS3 to P5B Deluxe or Commando. Outpost.com has flexible return policy. If it doesn't work out, I'll return them. BTW I ordered 2 kits so 4GB total...wow...it'll be here in a few days so stay tuned for updates.
