Looking to OC a Phenom X2 550 and Athlon II on Gigabyte MA770T-UD3P. I already got the board, now need a good 4GB DDR3 kit from newegg.

Not looking to spend a lot of money.

How do you like the board ? What CPU did you OC on it ?

I didn't really like the board, the NB ran way too hot. I ran a x3 720 and OC'd it to 3.6 without a problem, but the the high NB temps started happening. Replacing the TIM didn't help either. If your NB stays cool I would recommend putting heatsinks on the CPU VRM's which are located between the CPU socket and the I/O panel. I'm running that RAM on my M4A79T Deluxe right now at 1600mhz 7 7-7-20 and 1.85v.

ya, no heatsink on VRM's is kinda disappointing and shocking in the world of enthusiast OCing, but i guess its a budget board after all.

Any DDR3-1333 module will work. The system will start it off at 9-9-9-24, but you can tighten it. 7-7-7-20 is almost free.

I just picked up a set of these, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148262, and bumped them upto 1600 right out of the package. Haven't played much with timings but plan on it tonight.

Those are most likely the same sticks as what I have. 1333 cas 9 1.5v sounds right. They should work at cas 6 1333mhz with 1.8v

are the heatspreaders on higher priced RAM worth it or just gimmicks ?

for eg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231200

i read a review on newegg telling that the enzotech n-81 or something like that fits perfectly on that board.

Heat spreaders only really have a benificial result at about 2.4-2.5V for the ram. With DDR3's low voltage requirement, its more for looks with very little cooling effect. If you wanted to cool you ram get one of the many ram fans on the market, that do a much better job. a simple 120mm fan pointing at them works on the real cheap

Yes, I like using those Antec Spotcool fans, they can mount anywhere and they are good for cooling the ram and knocking the NB temp down a couple degrees.

they are nice but a bit on the tall side. Front page has a review to it at tweaktown.

Now since I went to water-cooling I don't think the heightness will be a issue but thanks for the info sneeky. :toast:

You are right Ken...it wont matter a bit once the cooling is water:)
