The missus is treating me to a new mouse for XMAS :rockout:, so which one should I go for? I want it to be a 'gaming' mouse and I would also like it to match my rig (black & red, see avatar)

These are the mice Ive narrowed it down to (I want it to be a good performer yet affordable)

1) Razer DiamondBack Salamander £28.56: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/102431/show_product_reviews

2) Microsoft SideWinder £39.59: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/132503/show_product_gallery

3) Logitech G3 £21.05: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/114188

6) Wolf King MSWK-TR-RED £17.61: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/ProductInfo.asp?WebProductID=579937

7) Speed-Link Styx £21.14: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/productinfo.asp?WebProductID=700243

As you can see, I have a few possible choices in mind. But I just dont know which one to go for

Ive owned a Razer gaming mouse before (the CopperHead Tempest Blue) and it was awesome. But as Im using a larger mouse atm, I was thinking I should go for something like the SideWinder or the cheaper (yet good performing) Speed-Link (or the strangly similar Wolf King)

Any advice would be great :respect:

The sidewinder. Tried one - liked it a lot.

Let's put it this way I would have got one, but I like my MX1000, and it was a present from my sister about two months ago, she's 12 so it would be mean to part with it. Plus I like wireless mice as I'm a bit cramped around my PC.

Those last two are strangely similar to the Logitech MX range of old, and the G5/7.

I hate asking for other people's opinions on input devices, when it's deciding ultimately which one is best, it's so subjective.
For the best answer though, you must answer:
What hand do you use? (might be the obvious right hand, but not always ofc)
Do you like a lighter or heavier mouse?
Are your hands large, normal or small?
Do your hands sweat alot?
Do you prefer a grippier or smoother surface?
How many buttons d'you need?
Are you a high, medium or low sensitivity gamer?
What surface d'you mouse on?

I might have forgotten something there, but those would really help choose a mouse for you.

Bah - took too long again! :p

Thanks, thats a good list of things to consider :)

Yeah, it's some things I take into account before choosing a mouse, even though my MX510 really was chosen cos it was blue, and looked different to the cheapo shit next to it. Ended up loving it, but looking at different mice now, I've seen a trend, I'm right-handed, and really hate using ambidextrous mice, just not as comfortable. I prefer something heavir for gaming, lighter for browsing, I have ginormous hands, I sweat a bit during gaming, so I prefer something grippy. I don't use extra buttons much outside of browsing, since I never know what to configure them to in-game, and I'm a high-sensitivty player, on a cloth mouse mat. All of that led me to the G5, which I <3 and still use.

But to break the mold - buy the Sidewinder, it looks like a weird cool machine thingy.
Probably the weirdest design for a mouse I've ever seen, without looking at the "ergonomic" mice. Looks comfortable, and is probably the first MS mouse I'd consider buying.

Youve just helped make my mind up.....Im going for the SideWinder :rockout:

I think sidwinder too especially since its tpu user recomended :P well we know it cant be total crap (it does have a bit diff layout). otherwise I was hoing to recomend the salamander Razor mouse since its a Razor mouse (I have 1, I like it alot) and it matches your rig nicely compared to the dimondback, I would think.

Sidewinder is probably going to be the next best thing. The Logitech G5 was a great mouse, but I believe the sidewinder with all that it has now is going to be something that everyone is going want to copy years to come. Hope you love it man!! :toast:

Diamondback all the way for me as i use one. I tryed to replace it with the Copperhead but liked the side buttons on the Diamondback more.

Mines about 16 month old now and works like a charm.

G5 still kicks ass ;)

Now youve made me think twice about the SideWinder.....because I did love my CopperHead.
