Probably the SE16, but the 640GB drive with two platters is a stellar drive. Probably overkill for you since you linked a 250GB drive.

I actually have the 2500AAKS myself. Great drive.

Yeah, at that size most of the new ones are pretty close in speed. Get up to like 500gb+ and the SE16 takes a big lead over that, but the 7200.11 is closer. As usual w/ this type of thing, the real performance will be hardly noticeable in any case.
 
SE16 is faster, but if you really want the kick get a RE2 :)
 
One thing I did notice on the links above, the Seagate shows a 5 year warranty, while the WD SE16 shows no warranty...
 
There would never be no warranty. WD is usually three years. The Raptor drives are five years if I recall correctly.

Hard drives are funny. You almost have to be partial to one brand to know what to buy. I've used only WD drives. I tried a Seagate once and it was a hacksaw.

That's pretty much my understanding, but I couldn't find it on the WD link above. I like things in writing!;)
 
Heh. I like to think of it is Seagate offers a longer warranty because their drives are more likely to need it. :D

I know, such is not the case. I've never had a problem with a WD drive though.

To be perfectly honest, I find Seagates fail MUCH more often, mainly because of their slimmer size they run hotter without decent cooling and burn up.

I send on average 1-3 a week to Seagate for warranty replacement.
I have on the other hand not seen a dead WD drive in about a month.
 
Are WD noisier?
 
The AAKS drives are quiet, but other factors will contribute to noise. The case, the method of installation, etc.
 
doesnt the seagate have the perpendicular recording thingy, if that does anythhing>/
 
Yeah. The .10+ models are perpendicular.

In Seagates 7200.9 is a regular HDD 7200.10 and up are Perpendicular recorders...they record/read twice per revolution!

Edit: farlex was on it!
