I'm looking to buy a new 24" monitor and will be placing the order soon but am having trouble deciding. If you go here you'll see a list of monitors on NewEgg's site. I am interested in the top 5 listed, the Sceptre, DCLCD, Acer, KDS and Westinghouse. I know when people shop for monitors they look for certain things. Black levels are not too important to me, but a sturdy stand is. It doesn't have to be adjustable, but an old Acer model I had (Not the one I'm considering buying) wobbled more than a high crack whore strutting down the street, and it was on a very large/heavy stable desk. I really can't spend more than up to the 399.99 Westinghouse model, so please don't suggest anything beyond that.

In a number of reviews for the Westinghouse they praise it's image quality but a number of other people mention input lag...which would be disastrous since I want this for gaming. I'm really torn, and possibly leaning toward the KDS. I've never bought that brand before but I was looking at their other products and they virtually all get good reviews. As always in my time of need and confusion I come here, you guys are always helpful, except for that time Wizzard offered me candy if I went with him in his car...

I would go with KDS since it is HDCP compliant and has 3 years warranty. Its a good company and have seen lot of those at CompUSA. For that matter see if you can get one from CompUSA as they are closing may be you can get some good discounts.

I have a BenQ 19", never had a problem for last 3 years. Extremely good for gaming. I would go for BenQ once again. It also has 3 years warranty and good customer service. After Rebate it comes within your budget. Just my 2 cents.

If the monitor has good responce (<8ms) you shouldnt have much trouble with it. Also dont rule out cheaper models, more often than not I found the cheaper models to be better than more expensive well known brands.

The KDS would be my 2nd choice with the Doublesight being the first. The overall picture quality of the Doublesight is better than the KDS and the stand is much more adjustable also.

:toast:

NewEgg doesn't have any cheaper 24" models, these were the 5 cheapest. Hm its looking more and more like the KDS unless I have a change of heart.

i'm going with westinghouse next month.

I had a Westinghouse HDTV awhile back that was pretty good, thats why I wanted the Westinghouse monitor. The only thing scaring me away from it is multiple reports of input lag.

Westinghouse makes a really nice deep frier, I know that. The pixel pitch isn't listed on that one though, at newegg or the manufacturer site. The only ones that do list the pixel pitch are at .27, which is pretty good for LCD's I guess. If you're into pixel pitch, my Samsung CRT is .23, thats pretty low and I've never seen a monitor so clear (with my own eyes.) I'd say get one that you know has a good pixel pitch, the other numbers matter too, response time and all that. I like Samsung, I'd get another one, just because I've owned one and it's pretty nice--but then LCD's are a lot different that CRT's, and I've never owned an LCD, so I don't really know. I always try to get the lowest pixel pitch (as long as the response times and brightness and all that junk are sufficient too.)

The BenQ monitor is obviously the best on that list. I'm in the process of getting a Dell 2407WFP-HC right now, and the only problem with that monitor is that it doesn't have HDMI.

personal i only buy monitors at a retail store u can usually get a good deal on them there i picked up an open box viewsonic 20" 1680x1050 from circuit city for my dads birthday recently for only 145 bucks and its a damn nice monitor without a scratch on it

even tho this is not in the top 5 on that list its #7 to be exact a friend of mine recently got one of these and it is spectacular hands down the best monitor ive seen ever http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001234

I have to buy it at NewEgg, the Chimei monitor I'm returning is ordinarily non-refundable but the sales rep was very nice and said that if I buy a monitor of equal or greater value then I can RMA the Chimei for a refund. I just got a Christmas card with $100 in it so I'm considering adding that to the budget if I find something I like.

i LOVE my Acer 24". i got it for $299!!! great monitor!

How and where did you get it so cheap, black friday or something?

How and where did you get it so cheap, black friday or something?

i got it at my local mircocenter. it was the last one so they marked it down to $299. not black friday either. it was October when i got it.

Hm, too bad I'm stuck with NewEgg. (I think thats the first time I ever said that)

Well like I said I have to buy on NewEgg to be able to even refund the Chimei monitor I no longer want. I'm stuck in the sense I can't shop local and possibly get a deal =p
