I'm running a 5850 (10.3a preview drivers) on Windows 7. I just got my DP->VGA adapter but eyefinity isn't working. I have two 23" inch monitor (Acer X233H via DP->VGA adapter and H233H via DVI) on the sides of a 32" LCD TV (1360x768, via DVI->VGA adapter).
so 23" (DVI) - 32" (DVI->VGA) - 23" (DP->VGA)

I got all 3 screens to run 1360x768. However when I go to create a display group, and select the 3x1 option and press ok the displays begin to blink, then it ends up being all 3 monitors in clone mode with a res of 640x480. Now under "Desktops and Display", if I right click on the one display that's there and select property, it says the Desktop Type is "Eyefinity Duplicate", however I can only select 640x480, 800x600 and 1024x768 as resolution...

All 3 monitors are capable of running 1360x768, why won't Eyefinity work? Any pointer is much appreciated.

it always duplicates it at first for me, but if you look above the little monitor picture there is a bar that has a next button. after clicking next it turns the group landscape as i wanted.

i am waiting for my DP adapter, but this is what happens with two monitors.

Ummm..it doesn't give me that option....after I enable display group, a bar will come up on that page asking me "Is this arrangement correct: Yes/NO", if I click yes, it just goes back to CCC while still in clone mode, if I choose no, it'll still be in clone mode, but everything behind the CCC window (desktop, other programs) will become black, as if it's trying to do the "Click the monitor lit in blue" test, however my monitors will still be in clone mode...

UPDATE: Now I tried to remove my HDTV, I ran it with only the two 23 inch monitor on DVI and DP->VGA, eyefinity display group worked perfectly... what gives? I know the HDTV has a different native resolution, but shouldn't eyefinity automatically select the highest common resolution?

When I have my HDTV plugged in, it has one more option above 1360x768@60hz which is 1920x1080 @ 30hz interlaced, could that be the problem? I can't seem to remove that resolution even though I used Power Strip to create a monitor driver whose max resolution is 1360x768

did you get an active "powered" Display Port adapter if not that could be the problem

it shouldn't.

he specified DP->VGA and for that you don't need an active adapter, even for eyefinity. you need it for DP->DVI/HDMI because DP is Analog and DVI/HDMI are digital - but VGA is analog just like DP, so all you need there is a cable to make the plugs fit.

this is all from my research, and reviews from the adapter i bought off newegg. Mine will be in in a few days to test, but it seems pretty concrete.

someone in that newegg review mention they had to set the DP as the middle monitor for it to work properly - i don't know if that helps you at all... i can't really help much more until i get mine in front of me, as of now i don't really know too much...

keep us posted as to if it works for you, i may go that route myself

the cheapest active one Ive seen is $90 :(

Watch this clip from HardOCP (nearly 34 minutes): it pretty much says it all.

it did for about 15 minutes, then the adapter died and would no longer work at all. i returned that and ordered the active. no returning the video card or monitors - so the whole investment is null unless i have that adapter. the 15 minutes of gaming made me want it even more :) :(

so yeah. that sucks. i may have gotten a cheap/bad one, but i doubt it. even working it was incredibly touchy and took more time to get working (changing displays, reactivating, etc) than i even got to use it. i think the whole idea probably isn't a great one.

ati screwed up here. to have such a huge investment depended on a stupid little adapter. i want the tech so i'm dealing with it, but it still isn't too cool. good luck.

i think you may want to double check the resolution on your tv, the advertised resolution is often not really the resolution.. for some reason with tvs the resolution is sometimes off by a couple dozen pixels, it seems with tvs resolution and pixels are different values in their crazy crazy tv world

that does suck since the active adapters are not cheap

Ok, an update. I finally got it working after like a day of tinkering with it. The adapter works perfectly, no flickering, no disconnects.

What I had to do to get it to work was use Pheonix EDID designer to redesign the preferred resolution of my HDTV (which was originally set at 800x600). Now everything is rolling nicely in 4080*768 :)
