hi there, i recently just thought about this because in my country we have several power outages/power cut during the year at random times.
and i was wondering why does the monitor after the power cut/power outage it goes back on when the energy comes back online again? while the computer remains off unless i turn it on.

shouldn't the same principle apply to the monitor? if there's a power outage and then the energy comes back on, shouldn't the monitor be off until i turn it on again?

thanks for your time.

No it doesnt apply, with monitors, they go directly into standby mode unless there is an input signal from the pc to save on power. its been that way even when CRTs were around.

It depends on the monitor and it depends on the power state it was in when the power went out. If you turned off the monitor with the power switch when you were done using it and then you had the power outage, the monitor should stay off until you hit the switch.

However, if you just let it go to sleep, then lost power, depending on the monitor, it may power up when your mains go live again.

Yeah exactly what happened, it went back on because it was on before the power outage, just been wondering why they do that instead of going back off like the computer does.

Totally different power supplies.

But also, there is a setting in the computers' BIOS Settings Menus where you can set it so it powers up after power is restored. This is for "unattended" computers (typically servers) that are in remote locations, or location unmanned at night. If there is a power outage, a technician does not need to make a road trip when power comes up. But most home and small office computers don't need that.
