Im guessing its something to do with the onboard controller of the CF card being rather primitive and the motherboard bios doesnt quite know what to do with it to let you boot from it.

I'll try to update this post with a guide but...

CF cards are not all the same.
There's a bit stored for denoting 'fixed' vs. 'removable' disks, most modern consumer-facing CF cards are not set up for this use.

Some, can be edited to be 'fixed disk' but, many retro systems still won't boot from them.

The other issue is that many cards aren't quite the same as they used to be. More like SD cards with internal translation.

Only sure-bet to get Retro-compatible CF cards is to buy 'Industrial' ones.
AFAIK, all Industrial CF cards are effectively PATA/IDE DOMs (Disk-On-Modules)

You may find a
2.5" SATA hot-swap bay, an IDE<->SATA adapter, and cheap SATA SSDs
less hassle and more affordable.

Ir gets to this stage that it does not recognise the CF card.It did before that.I think it must be to do with the Bios. The Pentium 4,2 6 is not that old .

Oh man it is definitely that old. Northwood came out in 2002. Booting from USB or portable storage was not a guarantee.
