Why won't my other modem work?

I have an ADB DA2200 modem as supplied by Fastweb (Italy) and it works fine apart from the wifi transmission, which is somewhat weak.
So, because of this I want to swap it for my TP-Link TD-W8951ND(IT) which has a better antenna system, however, when I plug it in most of the lights come on except the light that indicates there is an actual ADSL connection.
Plugs are in, my DA2200 works fine but why not my TP-Link modem?

Any ideas?

in the US , you have to call and register(or activate) the Modem with your ISP, is it the same in Italy?

user logon details hardwired into modem ? as typical with Sky
contact your ISP with your Modem details (inc your modem MAC address) to verify you can use your modem on their service
this may as above Registering your modem to run on their Service
Their service might be Registered to the MAC Address of your other Modem

I would have to imagine that it's no different than in the US since if it wasn't, any person could just split your coaxial cable and hook up their own modem and run their Internet off of yours with no accountability

It must be MAC address bound and require registration or activation

Not always the case. My Adsl modem DGND3700V2 worked right out of box after I entered my credentials into its settings on Windstream network (Alltel).

Is this a VDSL or ADSL signal? Also there is 2 Types of ADSL ATM or IP based.
