Will I get better sound out of an Astro Mixamp than my GPU/Motherboard?

Right now I'm connected to my onkyo AVR via an HDMI 2.1 from my 9070 XT GPU to my television and the televison has an HDMI going into my receiver that gives me 5.1 Surround.

The motherboard is a b650-vc but I don't think it's currently playing a role in the setup, if I'm not mistaken.

Could I follow these instructions with my mixamp that's just collecting dust and basically use it to get better sound from my PC to my AVR?

You wont strictly get better sound, maybe more volume. And no the motherboard audio is doing nothing its 100% GPU.

I didn't watch the video, but it sounds as if it would be acting strictly as a preamp, so there's no reason to believe it would result in more volume.

HDMI is digital; converting it to analog, then running it through an analog cables is just more opportunity to introduce noise. You use a preamp primarily to fix line level problems (which don't exist with HDMI), or to add some flexibility in input and or output options.

I guessed at DAC then amp situation. I watched a bit of the video. Analogue regardless.
With an AVR the digital input from HDMI will end up converted + pre amp.
