I just googled how much 8gb ram to 16gb is and it said
"Upgrading RAM from 8GB to 16GB will increase gaming performance much. System processes will accupied around 3GB of physical RAM. So, it is around 15GB of RAM is for applications (game). The speed will increase around 50%. "

is this true? my ram is 8gb ddr3 other specs are 1060 3gb i5 3570 (it's k but non oc)

If you are playing modern title then yes, the benefit will be significant. If you are just playing older games or eSports games, then the performance gain will be much less, it at all. Then again, your 1060 3GB will also be a problem. 3GB is not enough for many games. 4GB is recommended for medium settings on newer games.

been trying to play a intensive game (warzone) for seeing if my ram is a bottleneck and when my cpu was %100 my ram is generally about %90. that means its not a bottleneck?

also I bought a ssd rescently upgraded from a 7200rpm hdd and I thought getting ssd would help with games like warzone but actually im for some reason getting booted every game and the game just shuts it down at some point.. usually not too long after the match starts. anyone know why its doing that? I dont get kicked out of any other games like OW, WoW, etc

If you are using close to or more than 8gb, get 16gb. 8gb is a minimum these days for a gaming rig and several titles will use it all.

You've also got a 4c/4t cpu which can hold things back... your 100% cpu use tells us this. Time to consider upgrading.

Storage helps load times in gaming... that's it.

As far as warzone... try the latest hotfix drivers... I think there is a crashing issue and 100% cpu use on that game.

hm ok I might get 16gb then

also I think the kick's im getting from are just a driver issue.. i remember i tried warzone when it first came out and I updated my gpu drivers or something and it fixed it.

If you only have 1 8GB stick and you're upgrading to 2x 8GB sticks you should see an ok performance increase just from the 50% more memory bandwidth.

At the same time your system is pretty slow in general by today's standard and will struggle in any modern game.

I did not notice a significant difference going from 8gb to 16gb on my 3570k + GTX 970. Just save the money for when you do a complete system upgrade and get 16gb of DDR4 then.

this may be the right route for me tbh

and it's 2x 4gb sticks

is that free ram thing fake?

Warzone kicks a system hard.
Honestly you want 6 threads, RX570 or better 4gb GFX for medium 1080p....For 1080p and lower settings 8gb is enough...
I think you're being held back by the CPU...I doubt you're getting to see what your gpu can do.

well.. i dont really mind I dont play Warzone the main game I'd want to play when it releases is Blue Protocol. and that suggests 16gb.

for now im fine with the games I play but should i get 16b for blue protocol?

Although 16GB Is recommended so is an 8 thread CPU and 6GB of vram or more so you dont really meet any of the recommended requirements.

If you get another 8gb of ram I'd also suggest getting an I7-2600k...or 3770k...
But keep in mind a ryzen 4c8t cpu mobo and 16gb of ram can be had for roughly $200
With the 2600k and another 8gb of memory you're close to $100 and quite a bit more for a 3770k.
more memory will help no doubt but you'll end up with the same cpu limitations.

If you can find a cheap set of 16Gb 2133MHz Ram, get that and then overclock that i5.
Any other expense on that old system is not worth it.

Here's how I figure out if I need more RAM: If the RAM use in the task manager is at 100% or near 100% and the page file usage is high and the system has uneven performance, then I know I probably need more RAM. By uneven performance I mean something like games freezing up for a fraction of a second, or even seconds at a time sometime, while running ok other times. Or programs sometimes launching quickly and sometimes launching much slower. Or very slow task switching sometimes. Things like that. It's kind of hard to explain.

Get used ddr3 1600 it's common and cheap, it's comming out of parted out haswell era office machine, next grab a 2600k and a beefy cooler, the cooler you can carry forward.

Alternatively sell your cpu,/Mobo/ram and buy Ryzen 5 1600 AF/b450 mobo/16gb ddr4

The second option is my favorite.

well thx for the replies.. probably gonna hold it out for now though cause most games I play dont need more than 8.

also even I looked on craigslist and ebay no crazy good deals or anything their all pretty close to price of new.
