Will this CPU work with this motherboard out of the box?

H97 as it has native support.

Not sure the H81 board has a removable BIOS chip to replace in the first place so that idea is out.

What do you mean by removable BIOS chip? I've never heard of those...

If you have a CPU that works in the H81 board now, upgrade the BIOs and use that board with the 4460. If you don't have a CPU that works with the board, just get a H97 board for the 4460.

Ok thanks. I think I'll take the safe route of investing in a H97 chipset.

You said you would contact the vendor. And unless they have a removable bios chip, there is nothing they can do (I don't believe they will send you another board after testing which bios it has in it).

As we said, just grab H97 as it has native support and be done with it.

You could buy an updated BIOS chip.I usually use BIOSDepot.
I've probably bought a dozen :o

I'd say just get a 4440 or 4570 unless you can find a h97 board at the same price...
