Did a ssd upgrade on my laptop from a mechnical drive. I'm getting error code 0xc0000225 - a required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

There weren't any other hdds/ssds attached alongside the newdrive when windows was installed correct?

This link goes to microsoft for your error code, I'm not sure why it appears as redirecting...

Did you clone the drive or install windows on to it? If you pulled the old 1tb out and put the SSD in and nothing more well you put a blank drive in hence the problem.

Yes, it was cloned using just two drives...alongside a bootable windows drive.

It's usually best practice to go clean install whenever you switch motherboard, drive type, yadda yadda... it's a pain, but it is what it is with Windows. Put together a convenient little folder of all the executable installers you used in one of your user directories (my favorite is Downloads, because I'm lazy) and run them one after the other. Getting everything set up the way it was is also a pain and you'll probably wanna dedicate a day (or an hour a day, for a week) getting that done.

Ok I used Hirem boot cd to fix the bcd and got it booting to the windows login, but the Win 11 was messed up so I'm going to backup and re-install. Thanks guys!

Make sure to only have the drive you intend to install windows on hooked up, no other drives

you can select proper in boot order.

maybe boot loader was cloned improperly. I love Paragon Hard Disk Manager for this.

Whatever you used to clone the existing drive didn't do it properly, likely missed the MBR or a partition parameter.

Does the original drive still boot properly? If so, what did you use to clone the drive?

Yes I agree. I used EaseUS Disk Copy.

It's all good now, I formatted, reinstalled, got all my programs installed.
