Probably seems like a small problem but ever since getting windows 10 icons that I have moved on the desktop (normally after installing something) go back to their default location. It's exactly the same as when explorer.exe craches and doesn't remember changes.

To begin with I fixed the problem by disabling fast startup, but now only restart will save the icons locations. Bit annoying if I want the computer off. It's abviously doing something different when I shutdown compared to restart as it seems to only install updates too when restarting.

Upgrade or clean install?

Using single monitor?

Really the auto arrange settings is turned off? It must creep form somewhere...

Like Ferrum Master asked, I see this issue all of the time on my dual monitor setup at work.

Ah, yes I installed a 2nd monitor at exactly the same time as my new SSD, I blamed the SSD (which was acting a bit funny), however after a reinstall this problem persisted and SSD was fine.

Didn't know a 2nd monitor could cause such problems! I have now installed Desktop OK, with the: save at shutdown/restore at startup, options enabled. Apart from Desktop OK starting last of all my programs so taking it's time it does restore the icons correctly!

Thanks for your help.

Other solution. Don't use desktop icons at all ;)
