Windows 10 stops my play/pause button from working if I have anything selected. Can I change this?

I use the play/pause button on my keyboard all the time. Foobar is the only music program I use so I want it to always control that. The problem is, if I have anything selected, such as the recycle bin, the button doesn't work. If I have a video or music file selected, it will start playing, either with Foobar if it's music or Potplayer if it's a video.

I really want this to go away. Does anyone else have this problem?

I am using Microsoft multimedia Keyboard, because Microsoft it does kill compatibility of non-Microsoft products.
I am also after Play/Pause and Volume control and now I feel somewhat in the safe side.
