[Windows 11] Is it possible to change which monitor will be "1" in display settings so it prevents moving tasks/windows to "1" monitor?

I know that i can extend and duplicate the monitors, but how do i actually change it so my main monitor (4 in the picture) becomes my no.1 monitor? Is it possible?

I ask becomes sometimes when i turn off the monitors i am not using, and then turn them back on, windows MOVES ALL of my windows/tasks to my "1"-marked monitor.... If i cannot change the monitor number, how do i prevent the moving annoyance from happening?

Do it from nvidia panel?
As in here:

but the issue still remains: My no.4 monitor is what i would like to be my no.1 monitor. Is it not possible to change that, or?

Windows has historically been useless about monitors and remembering what goes on which one, and Windows 11 continues that trend - sadly you still need third-party software to get this basic functionality. I use DisplayFusion, which isn't free but well worth it IMO.

Plug in the Monitor in the "correct" slot on your GPU.
normally it's 1-4 from left to right (when the GPU is installed, fans down)

the monitor number is driven by the port used on the GPU from what I have seen. A lot of things default to monitor 1 such as the bios boot screen, which I imagine you are also running into.

unfortunately this is not marked on the GPU and can be even more confusing if your GPU also hides a usb-c output somewhere.

usually though the port closest to the PCB is identified as port 1. If you physically swap your cables it will show this difference in the screen you re on.

as far as it being an annoyance that might be fair but it is not a bug.

windows does a great job at remembering program position and monitors (unless the software is programmed to open at a specific position, this is pretty common)

when you shut off monitors you are changing your desktop geometry and to prevent programs from getting “lost” out of screen it must reset the defined location values and the only thing it can gruntee is desktop 1 sits on monitor 1 and sends things there.

Once again helpin' me out with my wtf questions. Thank you. :)

Thanks to all others as well!

I don't know about W11, but in 10, you just drag & drop the monitors into the position (number sequence) you want in the display settings app....as shown below :D

Or did M$ just say "Well, let change this, just because we can" ?
