In the past I was able to haul my laptop out, plug in an ethernet cable and hook it to the PS3, and then use my PdaNet tethered 4G internet from my HTC EVO 4G and my Asus Laptop to connect to the internet on my PS3.
Now, however, I cannot get my LAN to work at all. It may be an issue since my last format/reinstall of Windows 7 Professional 64bit, but in any case it used to work fine and now it doesn't. I've tried a few internet suggestions, like uninstalling the RealTek PCIe GBE Family Controller under the Device Manager and rebooting, but that hasn't helped. I deleted the Config entry under the Control\Network subdirectory in the registry and rebooted, but that didn't help.
I know it's probably something very simple but I'm having a dickens of a time figuring out what's up. My wireless works fine (I'm using PdaNet with Connectify to broadcast the signal, but since it's an ad-hoc network, the PS3 won't connect to it even though my other PC and iPad do just fine) but my LAN just keeps saying "Network Cable Unplugged" and won't respond with the normal "ba-donk!" that it used to when I would plug in and unplug the LAN cable. It also doesn't give me the pop-up warning "A Network Cable has been unplugged" (or whatever) when I remove the LAN cable.
I went to the RealTek website and downloaded the most recent driver but it didn't change anything and it keeps telling me everything is up to date in Device Manager.
One other thing that might help: I used to be able to create some kind of virtual connection for internet sharing with the PS3 that was called "Wireless Network Connection 2" but I can't get that to come up anymore. So my PdaNet modem is shared so Connectify will work but I can't create a virtual connection to share with the PS3. Even when I turn off Connectify (and I understand that I may not be able to use both together) it still doesn't solve my LAN not detected problem, so that issue has to be resolved first.
Any help would be much appreciated! I hate not being able to use any of the online functions of my PS3 (Demon's Souls/Dark Souls PVP, Warhawk, etc.). Thanks!
