Hi, i'm trying to set up a secure network for my home-system and laptop. I currently just have my network set up via the router, with no wi-fi, but i am planning on getting wi-fi soon.
At the moment i am just trying to practise as i am unfamiliar with networking so i want to get it right when i get a wi-fi router.

Anyway, here's what i am trying to do.

I have set read access to certian drives and folders on the home-group but i would like to change this.

I would like to be able to have full access to certain files and folders via my laptop, but have them invisible to anyone else connecting to the network. Preferably i would like to give access to my laptop without having to type in the password every time i access a folder.

I tried going into the advanced sharing settings, however, on the location it only showed this pc... not other systems connected on the network.

I would also like to extend this access over the internet, so i can access folders when i am at work.

I've tried looking for guides, but they are either incomplete, or are not understandable and the help files are designed for network admins.

I don't suppose anyone knows of anyone has any links to guides, or advice on how i can do what i want to do?
